I forced myself to stay calm before turning to face Vanda. Then, I purposely raised my voice just enough for the people around us to hear.
“What are you talking about, Vanda? I have no idea what you mean!”
Vanda glared at me, her voice sharp and deliberate. “I asked my coworkers. None of them saw you yesterday!”
I swallowed hard, taking a step back. “Oh, I must’ve mixed things up. I went to a few places yesterday–maybe I got confused.”
Vanda’s eyes widened with fury. Even though she was mad, she could not do anything to me with so many people watching. With one final glare, she headed toward her office.
This was the exact moment I was waiting for. In one swift motion, I grabbed the collar of her shirt and yanked it upward.
There it was a fat, disgusting black bug clinging to her back, about the size of my palm. It was squirming desperately, trying to burrow into her skin. The sight made my stomach
churn.
Screams erupted from the crowd around us. A middle–aged woman near me went pale, dropping her thermos and stumbling backward in terror.
“Vanda! There’s a huge bug on your back!” I shouted, feigning panic. “I’ll get it off for you!

As I yelled, I reached into my pocket and pulled out the small knife I had hidden earlier. I flipped it in my hand, steadying myself.
Vanda froze in shock, and before she could react, I slashed downward with precision. The blade caught the wriggling bug, prying it cleanly off her back.
She let out a blood–curdling scream and collapsed to the floor, her face pale and drenched in sweat. Holding back my disgust, I used the knife’s tip to scoop the still–squirming bug into the small jar. I sealed it tightly, my hands trembling.
The entire process took less than ten seconds. I was proud of myself as I had practiced this move all night.
Still on the floor, Vanda turned around and stared at the jar in my hand. She shrieked, ” What are you doing!”
I screamed, forcing a few tears to well up. “It’s an insect! Didn’t you see it? That massive thing was crawling on your back! Luckily, I caught it in time!”
By now, the commotion had drawn a crowd of doctors and nurses. They stared at the

wriggling black bug in horror.
Someone whispered, “What’s that? I’ve never seen anything so gross in my life.”
“Dr. Watson, you’d better check yourself for bites. That thing looks dangerous!”
“She’s pregnant, too–someone should get her examined!”
Soon, Vanda’s concerned colleagues crowded around her. I seized the opportunity and slipped out of the chaos with the jar in hand.
Once outside, I quickly called the old woman. “I got the bug, but we need to meet somewhere else!”
When we finally met, I hurriedly took out the jar containing the cursed insect and handed it to her. “Ma’am, look!”
The old woman frowned as she examined the writhing bug inside the jar. “This thing is huge! Whoever raised it has no regard for her own life.”
She explained, “She’s been feeding this thing directly with her own blood and flesh, all just to harm you. She’s absolutely desperate.”
Her face darkened as she added, “But this isn’t an ordinary curse. This is a pair of bonded cursed insects, called a Twin Hex.”
I gasped, “There’s a pair? Then, where’s the other one?”
The old woman’s brows furrowed as she pondered, her expression grim. “I didn’t realize she was using Twin Hex until now.
“The bugs must be raised with the blood of a man and a woman. The second one is naturally not on her. They’re both raising the bugs to hurt you, determined to sacrifice your life for this.”
My heart sank as the realization hit me–it had to be Hector. However, Hector hated bugs. There was no way he would let something like this crawl on him, let alone cling to him. Hence, the other bug was surely not on him but somewhere in the house.
