Chapter 7
Vanda opened her mouth to say something, but I interrupted by handing her a sandwich. I kept my tone soft, sounding as concerned as I could as I said, “I noticed you haven’t eaten all day, so I got this for you.”
She did not take it and instead gave me a suspicious glance. “I’m not hungry.”
I forced a worried look, though inwardly I scoffed6. “Come on, eat something. You’ve been skipping meals, and it’s not good for your health.”
Vanda turned her head away, refusing to respond. She kept her gaze fixed on the ceiling, completely ignoring me.
Just then, a nurse walked in carrying another sandwich. She chimed in, “Dr. Watson, you really need to eat. Skipping meals isn’t good for the baby!”
“Here, take mine,” the nurse offered, holding it out to her.
Vanda hesitated, glancing between the sandwich in the nurse’s hand and the one I offered. Sensing her indecision, I said, “You shouldn’t starve your baby just to prove a point to me. Eat something, okay?”
She touched her stomach and finally took the sandwich from the nurse. Even though I was still unsure why Vanda was so desperate to switch our babies, I was sure that she did not want anything happening to it.
Hence, I had swapped the nurse’s sandwich with the one containing the bug before coming in. I told her that Vanda and I had an argument but that I still cared enough to get her food.
The kind–hearted nurse had agreed to play along without asking too many questions. To prevent Vanda from getting suspicious, I quickly ate my own sandwich, making it look
casual.
“So, Vanda,” I said, wiping my hands, “your baby will be here in a few months. Are you excited?”
She did not reply, her focus shifting back to the sandwich. However, I caught her stealing glances at my stomach. Just like I had not realized when I had eaten the food she had prepared before, she did not notice the insect hidden in hers.
As soon as she finished, relief washed over me until her face twisted in pain. Vanda clutched her stomach, her expression a mix of horror and agony.
“Luna, what did you do to me?” she gasped, staring at me in shock. She must have felt the dead fetus returning to her.
Dropping the act, I picked up the ultrasound report from her bedside and said coldly, ” Thank goodness my baby is safe. If anything had happened to it, I’d make sure you’d suffer

even worse than this.”
Vanda screamed, her hands clutching the bedsheets tightly. “Luna, you won’t get away with this!”
The nurse panicked and rushed over to steady her. “Dr. Watson, are you okay? What’s happening?”
Vanda shoved the nurse away and ripped the IV needle out of her arm. She lunged at me, shrieking, “Luna, give me back my baby! That’s my baby!”
I quickly shielded my stomach and sidestepped her, causing her to fall hard onto the floor. Standing over her, I glared. “What do you mean, your baby? This baby was mine to begin with, wasn’t it?”
I added, “You used that horrible witchcraft to steal my baby! You even wanted me dead! You’re the cruel one, Vanda!”
Vanda began tearing apart the hospital room, throwing anything she could grab. It was sheer chaos, but thankfully, it was a private room, so no one else got hurt.
The nurse stumbled backward and fled, stammering, “I–I’ll get a doctor and security!” Vanda realized what was happening and ran to lock the door behind her. Her eyes burned with hatred sd she glared at me. “Luna, I wasn’t the one who wanted to hurt you! I just wanted a baby of my own–with Jacob!”
Jacob Connor was her husband.
My whole body shook with rage. “Then have your own damn baby with Jacob! Why did you have to steal mine?!”
Her face twisted into a bitter, mocking smile. She spat hatefully, “Jacob is dead!”
