“Dead? What do you mean?” I asked, stunned.
Before I could process her words, Vanda stormed toward me, grabbing my collar and screaming with a crazed expression, “If I don’t have his child, his mother will throw me out!
“I won’t get a single penny! Why do you get to have everything while I’m left with nothing?!

Her sudden outburst caught me off guard, and I shoved her hands off me, stepping back in disbelief. I could not help but laugh bitterly at her twisted logic.
“Vanda, are you even listening to yourself? You stole my child, and now you’re acting like I’m the one taking everything from you? I’m the victim here!”
Before she could respond, my phone buzzed. It was a message from the old woman.
“The switch is taking effect. Stay hidden.”
Panic set in as I glanced around the room. Vanda had locked the door, and she was guarding it like a rabid dog. How was I supposed to escape?
Just then, I heard a commotion outside. The nurse’s trembling voice said, “Dr. Watson is in there, but she’s acting insane…”
Someone knocked on the door, their tone calm but firm. “Dr. Watson, let’s talk. Open the door, please.

Vanda ignored the knocking, her wild eyes fixed on my stomach. My heart pounded harder as the tension filled the air.
Suddenly, Hector’s voice came from outside. “Vanda, it’s me. Let me in.”
The people outside seemed to hesitate. “Maybe we should wait for security. You look pretty injured.”
But Hector insisted, “One’s my sister, the other’s my wife. Let me handle this.”
To my horror, Vanda laughed coldly, glaring at me. “Luna, I’ll make sure you die today.”
Then, she cracked the door open slightly, revealing a pair of scissors pressed against her neck. She screarned, “Only one person comes in!”
Nobody dared to make an unnecessary movement, watching Hector slip through the gap. They even advised him to be careful.
I panicked and shouted, “Help! They’re going to hurt me!”
As Hector shut the door behind him, the room fell into an eerie silence. His cold eyes met

mine, and a wave of sadness washed over me. had defied my family to marry him, which was how he repaid me.
Before I could say anything, he spoke first. “Luna, why can’t you just help Vanda? You’ve disappointed me so much with your selfishness.”
Tears stung my eyes as I stared at him. “Help? You mean to let you both kill me?”
“You weren’t just trying to switch the babies–you wanted me dead!” I shouted, trembling with rage.
Hector flinched but quickly composed himself. He mumbled, “You know too much…”
Then, to my horror, he burst out laughing. “But so what? Wouldn’t it be better if you just died? Vanda gets her share of Jacob’s estate, and I get yours!
“It’s like killing two birds with one stone. Isn’t that a good deal?”
“Don’t worry,” he sneered. “I’ll take good care of Vanda’s baby. What more could you ask for?”
I clenched my fists, furious at his shameless words. My hand slid into my bag, desperately searching for the small knife I had bought earlier.
Instead, my fingers brushed against a jar. I glanced down–it was the insect jar. I was puzzled, not remembering when I had brought it along.
Suddenly, a message lit up on my phone from the old woman. “I put a hypnotic insect in your bag, just in case. Throw it at Vanda’s stomach; her dead fetus will devour it immediately.”
Gratitude filled me as I realized she had once again saved me. When Vanda lunged at me with the scissors, I acted fast. I opened the jar and flung the bug toward her stomach.
The bug stuck to her shirt, and she froze, staring at it in horror. Before she could react, it burrowed through the fabric, sinking into her flesh and disappearing inside her.
I ducked under the hospital bed as chaos unfolded. Moments later, Vanda turned to Hector, her face blank with shock. Then, without warning, she raised the scissors and stabbed him.
Hector screamed in pain but was too injured from the car accident to fight back. He said desperately, “Vanda! Stop! I’m your brother!”
However, Vanda was consumed by rage and kept attacking him as she shouted, “I’ll kill you! You’re dead!”
By the time security burst through the door, the room was a bloodbath. Hector lay

motionless on the floor, and Vanda stood over him, her face twisted in madness.
The guards subdued her, but the damage was done. Hector was pronounced dead on the spot, and Vanda was taken away in restraints.
Still trembling, I felt my baby move for the first time in a long time. Tears streamed down my face as I cradled my stomach. “You’re back, my child… You’re really back.”
Six months later, I learned that Vanda had died in custody. She had miscarried the day she was arrested but refused to have the dead fetus removed. Her health quickly deteriorated, and she did not survive.
As for me, I left Lamdelaide and moved to a new city to get a fresh start. Thankfully, my baby was born healthy and did not resemble Hector at all–they only looked like me.
