Chapter 7
Serenity remained still in the car, gazing thoughtfully through the window at the passing scenery. Just looking at how many things and building had changed ever since her departure.
Amidst the silence in the car, the only sound was that of Precious babbling. A bit funny and childish to adults, but music to her

At the corner of her eyes, Serenity realized that Spencer was stealing glances at her from time to time,
Frustrated by Spencer’s constant glances, Serenity finally turned to face him and questioned with a serious face.
“Why do you keep on staring at me?” Her voice laced with irritation.
“Forgive me, but are you truly here to stay? Was it wise to return with the children and take the job at his company? Don’t get me wrong but I can’t begin to fathom what must be going through your mind.” Spencer’s words were measured, his gaze shifting to the two little ones in the backseat.
Serenity’s eyes narrowed at his probing tone, and she too glanced back at her children.
She sighed before answering with a hint of resentment, “The decision was not mine to make. I only came back for my job. nothing more. And this is only temporary. Once my contract with his company expires, I plan to establish my own firm here.
But if this place becomes insufferable for me or my kids because of him or his family, I will not hesitate to leave. I’m not the naive Serenity I once was.
I promised to hold no ill will towards them, and I meant it at the time. But if they disrupt my life here again with their tyranny, they will pay for it! Her hands clenched tightly, making her nails dig into her palm.
“Take a breath, girl! I asked out of concern for you. And don’t forget, the kids are within earshot. They may not understand
words, but they can feel your emotions.” Spencer tried to soothe her, placing a hand on her knee.
Serenity made an effort to calm down, opening the car window to gaze outside with a wistful expression. Her mind was racing with the thought of whhat would when she face that man again.
It had been six long years since she was forced to leave this country. And now, she was back because of the very same person who had driven her away. The irony was not lost on her.
Spencer heaved a sigh before stopping at a traffic light and turn to the kids,
He and the kids talked and engaged in playful activities while waiting for the signal light to transition to green.
Serenity, lost in thoughts, remained hushed, her gaze fixed on the outside world while contemplating enrolling Liam and Precious in a temporary school.
Unexpectedly, a dark SUV pulled up alongside theirs, also halted by the red signal light.
Given their proximity, she never thought or expected what happened next.
As the car inched closer, Serenity was unable to resist the temptation of stealing a fleeting glance at it.
However, as her eyes met the handsome man dressed in a sharp suit sitting at the backseat of the other car, her heart almost leaped out of her chest.
Frantically, she struggled to advert her gaze, but it felt as though she was held in place by some inscrutable force.
As if prompted by a mysterious cue, Sébastien, immersed in his laptop, suddenly sensed the weight of a penetrating stare directed towards him. Gradually, he raised his head, tracing the origin of that intense gaze.
The moment his gaze shifted, his irises were met by the glinting emerald green ones of an exquisite woman.
At that moment, he felt like time had stopped. His laptop fell off his lap but he paid no heed to it. He was in shock at the sight of the woman he had spent years searching for. The one who had haunted his sleepless nights. The one who had stolen his heart and then disappeared into the depths of oblivion.

“Serenity. He exhaled, his gaze unwavering. Was it real? Was it truly his ex–wife? And the person he had spotted at the airport it had to be her! Had she returned to the country!
Determined to ascertain the authenticity of the moment, he tied to get out of his car and approach her. He had a lot to say to her. Apologies to offer, forgiveness to request, and much more. Furthermore, he simply desired to have her again. Not with resentment, but with the same feelings and fondness that had once consumed him.
Nevertheless, just as he reached for the car door handle, blaring honks pierced the air. Instantly, Serenity snapped back to mality
“Step on it! Increase your speed?” She exclaimed, hastily closing her car window. Her gaze darted back to ensure that the man hadn’t caught sight of her children. Thankfully, Liam was still engrossed in his phone, while Precious was peacefully occupied with her iPad.
Spencer, alarmed by Serenity’s sudden outburst, questioned in confusion, “What’s going on, girl? I’ll drive faster, but what’s the
rush
“He saw me… and I saw him. We locked eyes, Serenity replied, now composed and collected.
Before, she was taken aback by his sudden reappearance after all this time. But now that she’s back to her senses, the last thing she wanted was for Sébastien to know about Liam and Precious.
“Who did you see! Who saw you?” Spencer asked, perplexed but keeping up the pace.

A deafening silence followed his inquiry, sending a surge of adrenaline through his mind. “Wait, it can’t be who I think it is, right?” Spencer’s eyes widened, nearly colliding with the car in front of them.
Serenity simply shrugged. After coming face to face with Sebastien once again, she couldn’t muster up any emotions towards him. Not even hatred. All she felt was apathy. Her children were her only concern now.
“He parked next to you in traffic, and we accidentally made eye contact. But I don’t care about him. My kids are all that matter,” Serenity replied honestly.
Spencer nodded in understanding. However, before he could say anything more, he spotted a black SUV tailing them.
“Oh no, he’s following ust Spencer cursed.
“What?” Serenity exclaimed, looking back to confirm for herself.
Indeed, Sebastien’s car was following them.
“Drive faster! I never want him to meet my kids! Serenity’s agitation was increasing. How dare he stalk her?
Though she was panicking on the inside, she remained poker–faced. She was no longer the vulnerable Serenity who could be intimidated by others.
If Sebastien had any sense, he wouldn’t dare to act familiar with her.
Spencer accelerated, alarming the young children in the back seat.
“Precious, come here!” Liam closed his phone and called out to his sister, holding her securely for protection.
“Why is Uncle driving faster, Mommy? I’m scared!” Precious said with a trembling voice while clinging tightly onto Liam.
With a quick glance luck, Serenity saw her children huddled together, their fear only heightened by Sebastien’s reckless driving If it wasn’t for his foolish pursuit, they wouldn’t be in this situation.
“Don’t worry, Lian and Precious. Uncle will keep you safe. We’re being chased by a bad guy, just like in the movies. But everything will be alright soon,” Spencer tried to reassure the kids, his hands and feet still firmly on the wheel and accelerator.
His eyes remained glued to the road as he deftly weaved through different streets, disregarding red lights.
“I’m scared, Liam Precious murmured to her brother, who held her close and gently kissed her forehead.
“Dont be afraid, Precious Mommy is here with us,” Liam comforted his sister in a low voice, but he was heard by Serenity whose anger towards Sebastien only intensified. She would delitely give him a piece of her mind later.

“Yes! We lost him!” Spencer’s jubilant voice cut through the tension as he finally slowed down the car.
“That was a close call,” he let out a relieved sigh
“Mommy” Precious cried out, clambering into her mother’s lap in the passenger seat.
“I’m sorry, baby. Mommy is so sorry, Serenity whispered, showering Precious with kisses all over her face.
She felt temble for what her children had just been through.
Turning to her son, she called out, “Liam, are you alright? Come to Mommy,”
But Liam just looked at her, not moving a muscle.
“Liam!” Serenity called out, confused.
“Were you running away from Daddy? Was the bad guy chasing after us our Daddy?” Liam’s question hit Spencer like a ton of bricks, causing him to slam on the brakes and nearly cause an accident.
“What the hell!” he swore under his breath.
Serenity’s eyes widened in shock as they fixated on her son. She felt her heart would leave her chest any moment. She couldn’t eveti process an answer,
Why was her son so smart for his age?
