Chapter 99 A Strange Sweet Feeling
Everyone turned to Rachel after Whitney’s words. Rachel’s eyes darted around, clearly avoiding eye
contact.
Rachel couldn’t possibly admit that she was the one who had arranged for the creepy man to come and
that she had locked the door herself.
She had imagined Whitney would be utterly humiliated and discarded by Damian like trash.
Just as she was relishing the thought, she heard a scream from inside the room, followed by silence. She
hoped nothing bad had happened.
She was more worried about the whole situation going wrong, but not about Whitney.
Fearing things had taken a bad turn, she quickly opened the door and rushed in.
The creepy man was clutching his foot in pain, yet there was a twisted grin on his face, almost as if he
were enjoying himself.
Rachel didn’t pay much attention. She had scanned the room and realized Whitney was gone. She saw the slightly open back door and cursed herself. She had completely forgotten about it.
Rachel felt angry and annoyed, turned to the creepy man and shouted, “You couldn’t even handle one
woman? You’re useless! And you think you can handle any woman at all?”
Suddenly, the creepy man looked up, licking his lips with a nasty smile, as if he had just found a new
target.
Rachel frowned and took a step back. “What are you looking at? I’m the one paying you. Don’t you want the money?”
The creepy man was consumed by a feverish desire and felt like he was about to explode, with his eyes bloodshot he shouted, “The other one escaped, but now I’ve got you. Come here, baby.”
“You’re insane!” Rachel’s face twisted in horror. She turned and ran toward the door, but just as she was
about to escape, a strong hand grabbed her around the waist.
Rachel panicked and tried to pull the door handle, but the creepy man was too strong. He pulled her back inside and kicked the door shut so forcefully that the lock broke.
He grabbed her, making her
and hair disheveled. Rachel screamed and struggled to break free
before running toward the half–open back door.
But the man had expected this. He locked the door from the inside and threw her onto the bed.
Rachel kicked and screamed for help. She saw a fruit knife on the table by the bed. Without thinking, she grabbed it and stabbed him in the stomach.
“What’s wrong. Rachel? Cat got your tongue?” Whitney asked. She could see the panic on Rachel’s face, and it was enough to confirm her suspicions.

“Uncle Damian, I’m scared. I don’t want to stay here,” Rachel whimpered and grabbed his sleeve. Her tearful eyes brimming with vulnerability.
Damian looked down at her and paused for a moment before saying gently, “Alright. Let’s leave.”
Relief washed over Rachel’s face as she held tightly to Damian’s hand, ready to make her escape.
But Yvette stepped forward, blocking their path. “Hold on! Nothing’s been explained yet. You can’t just
leave!”
Damian looked cold and said, “Ms. Jennings, I suggest you stay out of this.”
“Whitney has explained everything. It’s obvious Rachel was up to something. If she wasn’t guilty, why can’t she explain herself? Why are
vou still protecting her? Is she your fiancée, or is Whitney?”
Yvette stood firm, anger flashing in her eyes.
“Mind your words. If you don’t have proof, don’t make baseless accusations.” Damian said as his expression grew colder.
Whitney stepped forward, shielding Yvette behind her.
“If she did something, there will be proof. We can investigate how that man entered the Manor, how my door was locked, and I’ll report this to the police.”
She shot a pointed, look at Rachel, who looked down and her body trembled slightly.
Damian narrowed his eyes. “Reporting it to the police will attract a lot of attention. One is Howard family’s adopted great–granddaughter, and the other is my fiancée. Do you want to bring shame on the Howard family or me?”
Scandals in wealthy families, especially the Howards, always caught the public’s attention. One whisper would lead to countless prying eyes and unwanted scrutiny.
“If grandpa finds out about this, do you want him to be furious? Or worse, end up in the hospital again?” Damian knew Whitney’s soft spot, pressing exactly where he knew it would hurt most.
Whitney pressed her lips together and stayed silent.
“You’re right, but this situation will need police involvement no matter what.”
But then Noel, who had been standing by the door, spoke up.
“This happened in the Quinn family’s manor with outside guests present. The man in question is already injured and will need to be taken to a hospital. Once he’s there, it’ll be impossible to keep things quiet.
“If we don’t report this immediately, people might think that the Howard family is trying to cover it up. And
If that happens, they’ll start digging around for even more dirt.”
His gaze met with Damian’s, his tone firm, the final words laced with a deeper warning.
He was implying that if the situation escalated, Damian’s hidden dealing of the 200 million dollar embezzlement might surface.

Whitney didn’t expect Noel to help her, knowing well that this could tarnish the Howard family name.
As she looked at his handsome profile, she felt a strange sweet feeling in her heart.
Damian’s face darkened, ‘knowing that Noel wasn’t exaggerated in the slightest. And he had more than just the 200 million dollars embezzlement to worry about, there were other secrets at stake as well. What if things spiraled out of control?
Rachel groaned and looked at her hand, which was starting to turn purple from Damian’s tight grip. She felt pain and wanted to say something, but the pain disappeared.
Damian said coldly, “Fine, we’ll do as my brother suggests.”
