Chapter 26
Grandma was the only one in the family who didn’t despise me because of Amber’s theatrics. Sadly, her health had been deteriorating, and she had been bedridden for the past six months.
She had always seen through my suffering. When I visited her a week before the wedding, she gently patted my head and said, “Ally, if you don’t want to marry, then don’t. If he’s not the right man, marriage will only bring you pain.”
At that time, my mind was consumed with revealing the truth and seeking revenge at the wedding, so I refused Grandma’s suggestion.
“Don’t worry, Grandma. I know what I’m doing. You need to get better soon.”
“I’ll hold on until my birthday. I know that since Amber came back, you’ve had to endure a lot. But to me, you’ll always be my precious. I’ll give you a big gift on my birthday.”
Grandma held 5% of the company’s shares. When Amber returned, the family had suggested giving her those shares as compensation, but Grandma refused. I knew that she kept the shares for me, so I wouldn’t be left with nothing in the future.
Unfortunately, despite all of her careful planning, I couldn’t live to the day she gave me that
gift.
Shane soon dealt with the harassment calls and messages, and his dislike for me deepened.
He personally made soup for Amber and carefully blew on each spoonful before feeding it to her. He took care of her with meticulous attention. How could he even think of me at this
moment?
I knew that if the Erstonian man truly intended to destroy my corpse, this amount of time would be enough to make my body disappear without a trace.
I couldn’t help but wonder what kind of expression they would have when they eventually heard the news of my death. Would there be even a hint of regret for how cruelly they had
treated me?
Shane, worried Amber might be further upset, stayed by her bedside. In the middle of the night, he woke from a nightmare once again.
“Shane, did you have a nightmare?” Amber asked, as his movement had startled her awake.
Shane wiped the cold sweat from his forehead. His face was drained of color. “I–I’m fine.”
Amber walked over to him. “What kind of dream could scare you like that?”
“I dreamed that Allison had died. She was bleeding a lot, and she kept asking me to save her.”
Amber patted his back reassuringly. “It’s okay, Shane. Dreams are always the opposite of reality. It means Ally is living happily right now.
Shane, looking exhausted, rubbed his temples. “I’ve had this dream for several nights in a row.
“It must be because you’re so worried about her. If you’re this concerned, why not bring her. back? Then I can rest easy too.“”
