Shane quickly interrupted, saying, “That won’t happen! Grandpa would never give the entire Lundberg family to him.”
Elliott, noticing the tension build, added fuel to the fire. “Even if he won’t, Damon will still take the lion’s share. And you, the legitimate heir, will end up beneath a bastard. What will people think if that gets out?
“True, his net worth may be greater than yours, but you have two advantages. First, you’re not physically impaired like him, and second, your grandpa loves Allison.
“If you two can have a child soon, he’ll definitely hand over company shares for the sake of the child and Allison.”
Elliott stood up. “You don’t need me to tell you what to do next, right? Treat Allison well and end things with Amber. Tomorrow will be your best opportunity.”
Shane escorted Elliott to the door. “I know what to do, Dad. I won’t make the same mistakes
again.”
Sitting on the balcony, I extended my hand to catch the swirling snowflakes. As I watched them pass through my palm slowly, a cold smile tugged at my lips.
It was too late for Shane to regret it now. After all, a dead person could never forgive him.
I had come to accept who I had become. Unable to live or die, I decided to simply watch, waiting to see if Shane would eventually face retribution.
After Elliott left, Shane was clearly anxious. It seemed Damon’s return to the country posed a significant threat.
He called my number over and over. The automated voicemail only made him more and more
frustrated.
In the dead of night, I heard him mutter under his breath, “Allison, how long are you going to keep this up?”
To this day, he still thought everything was my fault.
Restless, Shane repeatedly ran his fingers over the beads of his rosary bracelet, as if that
would calmn his nerves.
My soul, tethered to this, could feel more than before. But every time I saw him with Amber, his touch felt disgusting.
The next day, Shane purposely wore a dark suit and paired it with the tie I had given him in the past. Holding a gift for Grandma, he arrived at the Schultz residence.
Devon kindly asked, “Mr. Lundberg, has Mrs. Lundberg come back?”

Shane’s heart skipped a beat, but he coldly replied, “She must have gone back to the Schultz residence. She cares so much about Mrs. Schultz Senior. With her health declining, I’m sure Allison returned early to visit.”
He assumed I hadn’t contacted him because I was still upset with him.
The birthday party was set for the evening. With plenty of time left, there were no other guests at the Schultz residence yet.
Amber had been waiting there since early morning. Seeing him arrive, she hurried over. Shane, you finally came.”

Seeing his black suit, Amber pouted. “Why are you wearing black again? You look so old and stuffy, like a worn–out old man. I just bought you a new bespoke suit last month. Why aren’t you wearing that one?”
The suit she mentioned had the same pattern as Amber’s. She clearly wanted them to wear matching outfits.
Remembering Elliott’s words from last night, Shane removed her hand from his arm. “Abbie, you’re not a child anymore. Don’t always be so touchy. We don’t want people talking behind our backs.”
Amber was confused by Shane’s sudden coldness. He had been caring just the night before.
“Shane, I was just-”
“Alright. I’m going to check on Mrs. Schultz Senior.” Shane ignored her and walked away quickly. He was completely unaware of the venomous glare Amber threw after him.
Shane hurried toward the courtyard and casually grabbed a household staff. “Has Ms. Schultz returned?”
The staff, assuming he was talking about Amber, nodded. “She has been here since early this morning. Didn’t you see her?”
Shane’s heart surged with joy. He knew I couldn’t possibly ignore Grandma just because I was upset. He quickly hurried toward the inner room.
