Chapter 32
By the time I arrived at the Lundberg residence, my emotions were no longer swayed by that shameless couple.
I missed Grandma. If I had known that a week before the wedding would be the last time I saw her, I would have stayed by her side more.
It had been nearly two weeks. Was Grandma feeling any better?
Shane had sought Grandma’s permission before entering the room. With a smile on his face, he greeted, “I’ve come to see you, Mrs. Schultz Senior.”
Perhaps worried about Grandma overthinking, he quickly found an excuse before even laying eyes on her. “I got held up with something, so I asked Ally to come see you first. Are you feeling better?”
Before he could get an answer, a cup flew directly at him.
With Grandma lying in bed and her strength limited, the cup didn’t hit him but shattered at
his feet.
Shane knew Grandma was upset about him running away from the wedding. Aware that he was in the wrong, he didn’t get angry. Instead, he stepped forward and continued to approach her
I could see Grandma lying on the bed. She looked even more frail than before. She tried to push herself up. One of the helpers rushed over to help her.
“Take it slow, Mrs. Schultz Senior.” Shane quickened his pace to help Grandma. While he was at it, he mumbled, “Ally knew you’re not feeling well. How could she not be here with you at a time like this?”
Just as he got close, Grandma raised her hand and slapped him hard across the face. “Who told you to touch me? Get out!”
The smile on Shane’s face froze for a moment. Since Grandma was a senior after all, he patiently said, “Mrs. Schultz Senior, I know I’ve made mistakes. You can scold or punish me however you want.”
“What’s wrong with you, Grace? Shane came here to visit you. Why did you hit him?” Before Mom even arrived, we could already hear her voice.
Grandma pushed Shane’s hand away and let the helper help her sit back against the soft pillow.
Pointing at Shane, she yelled, “I don’t have a grandson–in–law like him! I regret it so much. Back when the Lundberg family was facing financial trouble, I should’ve never listened to Ally and had Levi lend them money.
“After all that effort to help them, I ended up saving an ingrate. You jerk! How could you leave

Ally alone at the wedding? You’re so cruel!”

As Grandma spoke, tears welled up in her eyes. At that moment, my heart, once deadened by the betrayal of my lover and family, suddenly came back to life.
I dropped to my knees beside her bed and pleaded, “Please don’t cry, Grandma. Don’t be sad. I’m back…”
I reached out repeatedly, trying to wipe away her tears, but my fingers just passed through her face. She couldn’t hear me, and she couldn’t see how anxious I was.
“Grace, that isn’t Shane’s fault. He did it for Abbie. You know how bad Abbie’s health is. It was a minor issue, but Allison had to make it a public spectacle.”
Upon hearing that, Grandma, already angry, immediately pointed her finger at Mom.
