Chapter 17
Ava arrived home with Gabriel’s umbrella rightly clutched in her hands, and she ascended the stairs directly.
Melissa seethed with anger upon being ignored by Ava
“Stop“” Melissa exclaimed.
Ava tenderly wowed the umbrella away, infused with a touch of fondness and cherishing.
In her previous life, she possessed very little.
And she yearned solely for respect, love, and understanding
Her gaze fell upon the umbrella, causing the corners of her mouth to gemly curl upwards.
However, when her eyes met Melissa’s and Sophia’s, the coldness in her eyes could not be concealed.
Sitting in the car, she daydreamed about the moment in her previous life when she lost her tight.
Did it hurt?
Of course, it did! Sophia mercilessly pierced both of her eyes.
Reflecting on it now, the pain still enveloped her entire being.
How could she forgive them!
“Are you talking to me?”
Ava unered softly, yet her tone emerged blunt and cold
Meli burred that Ava hadn’t referred to her as “mon since their first encounter.
“Who else do you think I’m talking to now? A ghost?”
A ghost? Well, she had been a ghost once too, neither human nor spirit!
Ava ceased paying attention to Melissa, raised her feet, and readied herself to ascend the stairs.
“Ava, did you hear what I said!”
Ava then stopped.
“Anything else?
Sophia tugged on Melissa’s hand, her smile radiant and gentle. “Mom, Ava is probably upset. Ava, are you still angry at Mom! You know, Mom had her own reasons, but now, she has brought you back here. There should be no lingering animosity between mother and daughter Henceforth, let’s get along well and dutifully care for Mom, alright!”
Ava remained silent.
Melissa’s tone
tone softened somewhat, yet the disdain in her eyes remained undisguised
“Did you really save Mr. Anderson’s life and Mr. Smith’s”
How else could Gabriel say that Ava saved his life and Joshua’s?
If this were true, the Walker family would undoubtedly thrive as they forged a connection with the prestigious Anderson family.
Ava naturally discemed the avarice lurking in Melissa’s eyes
In her previous life, the Walker family had exploited this reason to gain favor and help with the Anderson family
However, this time, Ava would shaner Melissa’s illusions before it was too late.
A soft laugh escaped Ava’s lips.
Her voice sounded particularly melodious, resonant with clarity and gentleness,
“Do you truly believe it! This is merely a joke from Gabe. There is no such thing actually. I was merely jesting when I spoke of dreaming that they would encounter a car accident and reminded them to be careful”
Melissa’s eyes instantly turned frigid.
Chapter 17
“Can you truly joke about such matters! Or are you afraid that if you reveal the truth, we will snatch away the credit from your It appears that being raised in a humble place instills a dirty heart within you, which makes you always assess the hearts of others with your own disdainful musings”
Ava nonchalantly shrugged her shoulders. She told them the truth, yet they didn’t believe in.
However, if they could seize credit for it, they naturally would. Hadn’t they already done that in her previous life!
“As I recall, you were also raised in Brookhaven”
A subtle stiffness crossed Melissa’s countenance, and her face immediately became livid.
Ava had already ascended the stairs with nimble haste, retreating to her rooms to stow Gabriel’s umbrella away with due care…
Downstairs, Melissa clasped her chest, feeling a pang of anger–induced pain.
Sophia hurried to console her. “Mom, it’s alright. My sister has just returned, and it’s only natural for her to harbor grievances and be disobedient. With time, everything will be okay?”
Melissa was only grateful that and wasn’t present now
If he were to witness Ava’s current disposition. Melissa was afraid that he might also harbor dislike towards her.
Sophia poured a glass of water for Melissa, who took a few sips to calm down a bit.
“Why don’t you take a nap?”
“I woke up late this morning, so I’m not sleepy now?
Melissa suddenly thought of something and said. “Sophia, your father placed her in the same class as you. If she dares to offend you, make sure you
alright!”
inform me
Sophia smiled softly. “Mom, what are you saying? How could Ava ever offend me? Don’t worry. I take good care of her
Sophia coughed again.
It caused Melissa’s pity
“Ava is truly insubordinatet Your father originally intended for her income and take care of you”
Unexpectedly, when they finally met, they were on the verge of breaking out of a light,
“Mom, you and Ava have been separated for so long. It’s only natural for her to harbor resentment in her heart and distance herself from you. Mom, I will treat Ava with kindness and care. One day, she will accept us and see our love and kinders to her.”
Sophia’s eyes shimmered with radiant light.
After seeing Gabriel’s nice attitude toward Ava, Sophia couldn’t help but think if she were to become acquainted with him, would she be treated the same way!
“Mom, how do you think Ava came to know Mr. Anderson?”
Besides, Ava even called him “Gabe” closely.
Sophia’s tongue involuntarily touched the roof of her mouth as she silently recited “Gabe” in her mind.
“I don’t know.”
Melissa shook her head. Ava, the daughter she had never wanted in the first place, hadn’t crossed her mind since she leh Brookhaven.
“Mom, I applied the medicine to your wound. Does it make you feel better! Ava seems to like strawberries. I’ll wash a plate of strawberries for her and bring it upstairs”
Hearing that, Melissa was visibly moved
“You’re a good girl with a kind heart. It would be so good if only she were half as good as you
She felt deeply touched by Sophia’s understanding and thoughtfulness.
Sophia diligently washed a plate of strawberries and ascended the stairs.
The strawberries were incredibly sweet and smelled so good with a kind of milk flavor.
In the room, Awa was not napping but rather tinkering with her suitcase,
Having a nap in Joshua Smith’s car earlier, she wasn’t feeling sleepy just yet.

When she heard a knock on the door, Ava chose to ignore it.
No matter who the visitor wax, she didn’t want to see anyone.
i’s your floated through the door, gentle and soft, devoid of anger yet
r yet persistently insistent.
“Ava, open the door. It’s me, Sophia”
Ava reluctantly stood up and opened the door, but she stood at the door, with no intention of asking Sophia to come in.
Her eyes gleamed with clarity and beauty. She was slightly surpassing Sophia’s in height by half a head. She was now standing straight, as the cast a clownward gaze at Sophia. Her long eyelashes resembled delicate feathers.
She exuded an air of nonchalance, yet it was
yet it was laced with audacious aggression.
Ava’s voice carried a cold tone as she inquired, “What’s the matter?!
With a gentle smile, Sophia clasped the plate of strawberries with both hands and lifted it toward Awa
“Ava, do you like strawberries! Let’s have them together! They are utterly delicious
As Sophia spoke, she picked up a strawberry and prepared to offer it to Ava’s lips.
Memories of her previous life flooded Ava’s mind. At her first encounter with the Walker family, she was so nervous, and Sophia softened her heart with a plate of strawberries.
Sophia’s smile had been so sweet and enchanting.
They happily chatted in her room. At that moment, Ava had felt so sweet, as though she had fallen into a pot of honey, and she thought she was blessed to have such a kind sister
But there were some people in the world. They smiled the more saccharine, but their hearts were
e the more venomous
Ava’s lips curved into a slight smile, refusing the strawberry Sophia extended and instead reaching for the plate. “Thank you, but I need some rest, so I can’t invite you in.”
Having uttered those words, Ava closed the door behind her, leaving Sophia with a stunned expression
Sophia gazed at the closed door, and the warmth in her eyes gradually faded, replaced by a tinge of resentment and jealousy
