Chapter 6
Theo stayed with me the entire night. His presence and warm words subsided the storm within me.
But as Lucian walked in the morning again, the hurt and anger I had suppressed reignited.
“What the hell are you doing here?” I asked tersely.
“I told you not to show me your face again.”
“Selene, I’m sorry. I truly am,” He apologized.
He stepped closer and sat on the chair beside me.
“It was an accident, darling. Please forgive me.”
He tried to take my hand into his, but I pulled it back.
“Do not dare touch me again.” I glowered at him.
“I admit I was wrong. I should have believed you.”
“But you
didn’t, Lucian. You trusted that surrogate over me.” I snapped.
“And to be honest, all your apologies and remorse feel hollow. It’s nothing but your guilt of losing your heir. Not an affection towards me.”
“No, Selene, that’s not true. I’m genuinely sorry for hurting you and our child.” He said in a remorseful tone.
“Please forgive me this one time. Let’s start fresh.”
“See what I brought for you–Your favorite dish.” He said, trying to divert the topic.
He opened a food box and placed it on the table with a hopeful smile.
“Red pork chili,” He said, animatedly.
I let out a bitter chuckle. “What an irony,” I muttered, meeting his
gaze.
“What’s wrong?” he asked, confused.
“You know what that surrogate craves? What is she allergic to? What’s good for her health these days? You hired a whole team of nutritionists for her. Yet you put no effort and time into learning anything about the woman who gave you five years of her life.”
“I–I thought… I mean, Feya told me this was your favorite dish…” He stammered.
“Feya?” I let out another sad laugh.
“So not only you’re completely clueless that after a miscarriage, I shouldn’t be eating

greasy food, but you don’t even know my favorite food.”
Wow!! Well done, Lucian. You’ve outdone yourself.”
He opened his mouth to speak, but I cut him off.
“You’ve just made my decision clearer.”
“Decision?” His brows furrowed in confusion.
“What decision?!
“That I need to break our mate bond. I need a divorce from you asap.”
Though deep inside, it was hurting me, I announced it with finality.
“What? No!” He shook his head in panic.
“We can’t do that. I’m sorry. This won’t happen again. I will be mindful next time.”
He held my hand into his.
I promise I will be a changed man now.”
“There would be no next time, Lucian,” I said coldly.
I again pulled my hand from his grip.
“I reject you as my mate and want to sever our bond now!”
“Selene, no, please.” He pleaded.
“You can’t do this to us. You can’t throw away five years of marriage over one mistake.”
“One mistake?” I snarled.
“That ‘one mistake‘ cost me, my child, Lucian! Our child! And let’s not pretend you’ve ever thought of me as anything more than a tool to bear your heir. You yourself said I’m useless. Remember?”
“Yeah, I remember, but I didn’t mean literally.” He explained. “It came out in the heat of the moment. Otherwise, I love you. I always have.”
“If you had loved me, you wouldn’t have slept with another woman to have a child.”
“If you had loved me, you would have believed me instead of her.”
“I–I haven’t slept with her–And the hope of a child made me blind for a while.”
“Oh, please, Lucian. You think I don’t understand.” I said with a hurt. “She’s not just a surrogate. She’s your mistress.”
“And you love her more than you’ve ever loved me or my child.”

His silence, his lowered gaze, confirmed my allegations.
“Frankly, Lucian, I feel nothing for you anymore, and I know the same goes for you,” I said calmly.
“So let’s end this bond without unnecessary drama.”
He stared at me, his facial expression suddenly changing.
“Fine, Selene,” he rasped. You need a divorce, right?
“YES.”
“Then I’ll divorce you. But fit one thing into your head–you’ll leave this marriage with nothing. You won’t get a single penny from my wealth.
“Moreover, I’ll also ensure you’re exiled and wander as a rogue, alone, poor, and ashamed.” His eyes reddened as he roared angrily.
I smirked, shaking my head.
“Finally, Mr. Lucian had turned to his real self,” I said sarcastically.
