Chapter 52
Children’s Home often had volunteers coming over to do charity work. This included some celebrities and entrepreneurs. These people were mostly here for publicity, whitewashing, and image crafting.
During the days I was there, I never saw Susie. She must have only come over recently.
It could just be my imagination, but the gaze she gave Shane was out of the ordinary.
She did a pretty good job trying to conceal it, but could still pick up on the subtle cues.
Susie replied gently, “I see. Your concern for Mrs. Lundberg is covetable. The two of you must really love each other.”
Shane felt a little embarrassed. He wanted to avoid talking about this.
“I’m here to pick her up,” he said.
“You’re here to pick her up? I’ve been here for a few days now and I haven’t seen Mrs. Lundberg around. Could you have been mistaken?”
Shane suppressed the panic bubbling in his heart and said, “I need to see the dean. See you
later.”
He hurried toward the dean’s office. The dean came out of his office in advance with a jovial
expression.
‘Mr. Lundberg, it’s a pleasant surprise seeing you here. To what do we owe the pleasure of your
visit
Shane could not be bothered to exchange pleasantries with the dean. He cut to the chase, asking, “Mr. Brown, has my wife visited recently?”
George shook his head, saying, “It’s been more than ten days since Ms. Allison came in. What’s the matter? Did something happen?”
The public had not heard of my disappearance yet. When George noticed how Shane had rushed over so urgently, he became concerned and began asking many questions.
“It’s nothing.”
Shane’s heart sank. Not wanting to expose this matter, he continued, “When was the last time. she came over? Did anything seem out of the ordinary?”
I finally got to see a hint of nervousness on Shane’s face, but it was too late.
George ruminated on the matter for a moment before saying, “The last time she came over was probably two days before her wedding. She brought many candies and gifts for everyone. All the children were very happy, but strangely, Ms. Allison was not.”

Georg scratched his head before continuing, “I would say this wasn’t the only thing that seemed out of place. Everybody could see that the bond between you and Ms. Allison was rock solid. After all, you were childhood sweethearts and the envy
of everyone.
“However, during the past year, Ms. Allison’s emotions were all over the place. She would be happy on some days but despondent on other days. This was especially so three months ago.
“It was as if she had become severely ill. Not only did she lose a lot of weight, the smile on her face had gone away too. She spent most of her time in Children’s Home every day.”
“Three months ago? What happened to her?” Shane asked.
George looked at Shane with a puzzled look on his face and said, “You must be teasing me, Mr. Lundberg. How could I possibly know more than you, when you’re the person who’s the closest to her and you don’t even know it?
“Ever since then, Ms. Allison would stare blankly at the children, with tears occasionally falling down her face.
“Even when I asked, she would not tell me. She looked so brittle and vulnerable.”
A glum expression engulfed Shane’s face. I wondered what was going through his mind.
“Thank you. Please let me know if my wife returns.”
“Will do.”
As he watched Shane leaving in a hurried manner, George muttered, “I guess the rumors are true. It seems like Ms. Allison and Mr. Lundberg’s relationship has really deteriorated.”
Georg was a really nice person. Previously, he had a feeling that Shane and I were not on good terms with each other, which led to him persistently giving me well–intended advice and guidance.
Unfortunately, I was knee–deep in my vengeance at the time. My entire head was just filled with the thought of getting my revenge. Nobody’s advice could get through to me.
It was such a pity that I did not get to see George for one last time.
I saw him take out his phone and dial my
number
It was obvious that he would go straight to voicemail.
When Shane was leaving, he passed by Susie. Courteously, she asked, “Are you leaving already, Mr. Lundberg?”
