Chapter 54
With brisk steps, Shane marched toward a petite nurse. The nurse became startled.
When she saw that it was Shane, her face became ashened. Her lips quivered as she said, “M- Mr. Lundberg.”
Judging from the fiery look on his face, if it weren’t for her gender, he would have already laid a finger on her.
At this very moment, anxiety was painted all over his face. “Tell me again what you just said. What happened to Allison and the child?” he demanded.
Two petite nurses looked at each other with a confused look on their faces. They felt it odd that Shane looked so clueless..
“When Mrs. Lundberg had a miscarriage, she had her surgery here.”
There was another nurse who was bolder. Cautiously, she asked, “Did you perhaps not know about Mrs. Lundberg’s pregnancy?”
What seemed like weightless words struck Shane like lightning. His pupils trembled. He looked as if he had been hit by a truck.
“She was pregnant?”
The nurses looked uneasy. None of them knew how to answer him.
This was a given. How could any husband not know about their wife’s pregnancy?
“Yes, she was. I remember that time when Mrs. Lundberg was sent here, she had low progesterone, which meant she had a risk of miscarrying. What’s worse was that she had suffered from a shock.
“It would have been difficult to save the baby. That time, she held the attending doctor’s hand and cried miserably, asking the doctor to save her child no matter what.”
Shane shut his eyes tightly and grit a sentence through his teeth, “Who was her attending doctor?”
“Dr. Ziegler.”
I stood in the corridor. With a cold expression, I watched Shane walk toward the office of the attending doctor with frivolous steps. I guess the truth was finally coming to light.
Shane Lundberg, I wonder what the look on your face would be when you learn that you were the one who killed our child.
Would you be able to feel even an ounce of the pain I feel?
Chapter 54
I followed after him slowly. Just as I reached the office, I saw the shock on Shane’s face.
“Xander Ziegler. It’s you.‘
Sitting across from him was a slender and refined man with a pair of silver–rimmed glasses on the bridge of his nose.
This person was once my high school classmate. When we were in high school, he pursued me. He went to medical school after that.
At the time, I was sent to the hospital in a very weak condition. As he and I were acquainted, he took extra care of me.
Xander had long expected that there would be a day when Shane would set foot here. Xander’s calm expression stood in stark contrast to Shane’s shocked expression..
He looked at his assistant and said, “Leave us alone for now.”
“Yes, Dr. Ziegler.”
Shane was not in the mood to fraternize with him. And so, he cut straight to the point and said, “I’d like to know about Allison and the child.”
Xander took a brief glance at him. I caught the sarcasm in his eyes.
“I see you still care about her and the child, huh? I’d thought that you only cared about that sister of yours who isn’t even related to you.”
These words were filled with sarcasm and hostility. However, Shane did not want to waste his time over such unnecessary commentaries.
“Stop acting like a fool and tell me!” Shane demanded.
