Chapter 57
I had been dead for so long that the flowers on the grave had long withered. Only brittle leaves were left scattered around the gravestone.
The bouquets left even earlier had completely lost their color. The dried petals were carried away by the wind in fragments.
Shane stared at the flowers in various stages of decay. Finally, he couldn’t hold it in anymore.. Hot tears streamed uncontrollably down his face
Wasn’t it too late for tears now?
Perhaps our child was finally at peace. He was free from the pain and heartbreak we brought
into his short existence.
I could only hope that he would find peace and joy wherever he was now.
Shane bent down and picked up a small rattling drum on the ground. He brushed the dust off with trembling fingers and gently shook it.
The rattling drum sounded with thumps.
“Caden, Daddy’s here to see you. Can you hear me?” he asked softly.

A sudden gust of wind swept through, carrying away the petals of the most recent bouquet.
Those petals reminded me of the faded love between Shane and I. Even if I hadn’t died, our love would’ve withered over time. It would’ve scattered with just the slightest breeze.
Shane seemed to sense this too. He frantically reached out to grab the petals.
After much effort, he managed to catch one. But his grip was too tight. The dried petal crumbled into pieces in his palm.
When he opened his hand, there were only fragments left. The wind soon blew them away,
and not even a trace remained.
“No!” he cried.
He stumbled forward, trying to catch them. He ended up falling onto the ground in front of the grave. His expensive suit was stained with mud, leaving him looking utterly disheveled.
I didn’t spare him another glance. Instead, I gently stroked the gravestone.
“Caden,” I murmured. “I’m sorry. Mommy is late. I won’t be able to visit you anymore. I can only hope that wherever you are now, you’re surrounded by warmth and love, finally at peace the way you deserve.”
This cemetery was filled with countless graves. Yet, I hadn’t come across another soul like
Chanders?
mine.
In this vast world, I was utterly alone. It was a solitude that was indescribable.
It wasn’t until sunset that Shane returned to his car. Devon looked worried when he noticed the mud all over Shane.
“Mr. Lundberg, are you alright?” Devon asked.
Shane seemed drained of all energy. He remained silent for a long time before he finally asked, “Have you checked the cafe’s surveillance footage?”
At last, it seemed he had begun to suspect Amber
“The owner claimed the cameras were broken during that time,” Devon replied.
“Broken…” Shan’s lips curled into a cold smile. “How convenient.”
Would Amber have dared to act so brazenly if the cameras hadn’t been out of order?
Now, without any evidence, I wondered if Shane would still blindly believe Amber.
“Mr. Lundberg, I found that day’s events suspicious as well,” Devon added. “Even if Mrs. Lundberg disliked Ms. Schultz, why would she push her in a public place like a cafe?”
I shot Devon a look of appreciation. He had been on my side from the start.
Unfortunately, this simple logic seemed to elude Shane. It was as if his ability to reason had been completely clouded.
Shane massaged his temples. “Find witnesses who were there that day. Someone must have seen what happened. We’ll definitely find the truth.”
“Yes, Mr. Lundberg!” Devon responded enthusiastically. Then, he asked, “By the way, Mr. Lundberg, have you managed to contact Mrs. Lundberg?”
Shaned sighed and replied, “This time, I’ve really hurt her.”
Just as he finished speaking, a call from Amber came in.
“Shane, where are you? The weather’s so gloomy. There’s going to be a storm tonight. I’m scared. Can you come over and stay with me?” Amber said.
Shane’s face showed none of the affection he once showed Amber. Instead, his tone turned icy as he answered, “Perfect. I wanted to see you too.”
