Chapter 59

Shane stepped closer. He fixed his piercing gaze on Amber and asked, Why did she have a miscarriage? Did you do something to her?”

Amber put on a shocked expression. Shane, how can you say that? Do you really think I’m that cruel? I didn’t even know she was pregnant before all this happened!she replied defensively

But this time, Shane wasn’t so easily swayed. His hand shot out to grab her collar. Then explain to me why Ally had a miscarriage right after you visited her. She was protecting her pregnancy, Amber

She crawled out of there covered in blood! You would’ve realized it then, even if you didn’t know before. So why didn’t you tell me?he demanded

Amber’s eyes brimmed with tears as she began to sob. Shane, I only found out Ally was in the hospital because I was there too. You came to see me every day, but you never mentioned her once. I felt bad, so I visited her to explain what happened at the cafe.”

She continued, But Ally got so emotional. Not only did she hit me, but she said awful things about you. She even talked about wanting revenge. I tried to explain but she just wouldn’t listen. She grew more and more agitated. TThen she had a miscarriage.”

Her explanation wasn’t enough for Shane. If she was having a miscarriage, why didn’t you call for help right away? Why did you let it get so bad that she had to crawl out on her own, covered in blood?”

I did call for help, Shane. But Ally refused to stay in bed. She insisted on crawling out. I think I think she wanted to make a scene. Maybe it was part of her revenge,Amber replied

Tears fell from Amber’s eyes freely now. Shane, think about it. No matter what she thinks of me, she’s still my sister. But when she crawled out, the first person to arrive wasn’t even

doctor. It was Damon.”

She continued, When Damon came, he looked extremely worried and furious. It felt like Ally was his fiancee, not yours. Isn’t that strange? He’s been abroad for years and I’ve never heard of him having any connection to Ally. So why would he act that way?”

Under Amber’s relentless questioning, Shane’s hold on her finally loosened. She pressed on, After Ally’s miscarriage, you rushed to the hospital immediately, but she didn’t tell you anything about it, did she? If she didn’t say anything, how could I? I would’ve been meddling

I’ve been thinking about it for days, Shane. Why was Damon at the obstetrics ward? Why didn’t Ally tell you about the miscarriage? Could there have been something wrong with the baby?”

I had thought that with both witnesses and evidence, Shane would finally see through

Amber’s lies

But I had underestimated her. She didn’t just dodge the accusations. She twisted the entire narrative to her advantage

No man could bear the thought of his fiancee being involved with another man. Whatever was running through Shane’s mind made his expression darken. His face hardened and an icy tension radiated from him

What else did you see?he asked

Shane, besides what happened at the hospital, I saw the two of them meeting in private a few days before your wedding. I couldn’t hear everything, but I caught bits and pieces like not getting marriedand leaving.”

Amber stole a cautious glance at Shane and added, Do you think Damon and Ally might have

No,Shane coldly cut her off

At that moment, I finally understood how she had managed to turn my family against me in just a few short years

She had even transformed Shane, who once despised her, into his current state. Over and over again, she outmaneuvered me. She left me no room to fight back

Amber was too skilled. With only a few calculated words, she had redirected all the suspicion toward me and Damon, whom I’d barely met a few times

Shane said nothing more. I could see him silently mulling over the possibility of her words

Suddenly, a deafening crack of thunder tore through the silence

The sudden sound startled them both, as winter storms rarely brought thunder

The room was dimly lit by a lone bedside lamp. The rest of the space was cloaked in darkness

At the sound of the thunder, Amber let out a sharp scream

At first, I thought she was putting on another act to gain sympathy. But then I noticed her

eyes were locked on me. I was standing at the foot of the bed

Ally! It wasn’t me!Amber shrieked, her voice filled with panic
