Chapter 67
The businessmen nodded. “Understood. We won’t reject any further since you’ve put things this way. We do know several of the bosses running scam operation groups overseas.”
“We’ve also acted as guarantors to help others bring their family members out from the
centers. However…”
They paused before someone else continued, “I must make things clear. If you’re certain this young woman has been taken away for a long time, forgive me for being so blunt.
“Even if we do find her, we can’t bring her back the same way she once was. We’re all businessmen, so you should know the rules as well, Mr. Lundberg.
“If I were to provide you with this favor, yet the Lundberg family wants to take revenge, you’ll make things very difficult for the few of us as the middlemen.”
“Don’t worry. I won’t cause trouble for any of you.” Shane cast a glance at Wilson Lincoln.
Wilson and several bodyguards brought a few boxes over before placing them on the table. Inside the boxes were all cash.
“This is a token of my sincerity.
“Alright, Mr. Lundberg. Tell us more details about your younger cousin, and we’ll find her whereabouts for you.”
Wilson fished out a photo of me. The businessmen were stunned as soon as they saw the picture. “This… Isn’t she Mrs…”
Before they could even say “Mrs. Lundberg“, Vincent glared at the other two. One of them. quickly changed his tune and said, “Oh, it’s Ms. Allison.”
“Rest assured, Mr. Lundberg. We’ll give you an update soon.”
Shane waved his hand. Wilson extended his hand in gesture. “Contact me right away if you have any news. Have a good day. We won’t be seeing you off.”
“Sure, sure. We won’t disturb Mr. Lundberg any further.”
Everyone left the room immediately, leaving Shane alone. I reached for a glass of whiskey, but my fingers went through the wine glass. I let out a soft sigh.
Seeing Shane irritated me, so I might as well return to Grandma’s human–skin book. Grandma was growing older every day and was plagued by illness. I just wanted to accompany her more often, even if I was just a soul.
As soon as night fell, the room was lit up with warm lighting. Grandma kneeled on a cushion while praying repeatedly, asking for my safe return.
Chapter 67
I looked at her. If God really did exist, why were demons allowed to roam the world? Why did the good die young and the evil live long?
Grandma was still worrying for me every day in her old age, and I really felt bad. But what could I change about that? There was nothing I could do but watch her.
“Grace!” I heard Mom’s voice through the door was quite shocked that Mom would drop by
at this hour.
Mom actually didn’t like Grandma much. However, Grandma was strict in her younger days, causing Mom to act more terrified and respectful toward her.
Mom would never take the initiative to seek Grandma out if something important didn’t happen.
A maid helped Grandma into a wheelchair before pushing her out. Meanwhile, I took in Mom’s
appearance.
At least I could tell that Shane looked awful. However, Mom looked stunning despite my disappearance for so long. It was as if her daughter’s disappearance had no effect on her at all. Grandma held the prayer beads in her hands. The human–skin book was placed on the little mat covering her knees. She clearly recited her prayers day and night.
Her gaze toward Mom was filled with intense disdain. “What brings you here?”
