When I got home, I saw my parents sitting in the living room, waiting for me. Before I could even speak, they immediately launched into a storm of accusations.
My dad spoke first. “Hendrix told us what happened today. I’m really disappointed in you.‘
“That was the ocean, a place where you could lose your life at any moment, and you made Hendrix save someone else first!”
My mom quickly followed up, “With how reckless you are, how can we feel comfortable handing the company over to you? You’re simply too immature!”
Not comfortable with me? Was that why they allowed Hendrix to manage the company and even cut me off, just to force me to behave?
“Since you’re so irresponsible, we might as well get the wedding over with! You can just settle down and be a rich wife.”
“I will never marry Hendrix! I don’t agree to this marriage!” I said firmly, looking them straight in the eye.
“I came back specifically to tell you that I absolutely will not marry Hendrix. Whether you like him or want to hand the company over to him, that’s your business. It has nothing to do with me!”
My dad angrily slammed the table.
“You ungrateful child! Hendrix is such an outstanding person, and you refuse to marry him? Who else would marry you?!”
“I’m not marrying anyone!”
After throwing out that last sentence, I turned around and went back to my room. They could think whatever they wanted. I just did not care anymore.
The next day, I woke up early and headed downstairs.
I saw my parents sitting at the dining table, their faces grim. When they saw me come down, my mom looked like she wanted to say something, but my dad just let out a cold
snort.
“So, since you want to call off the engagement, you-”
“Enough!”
My mom suddenly interrupted. Her face paled as she looked at me.
“If you want to break off the engagement, your father and I won’t stop you. But from now on, the road ahead is yours to walk alone.”

After saying that, she stood up and walked toward the door.
“Let’s go. We’ll take you to cancel the engagement.”
Were they really agreeing to call it off?
For some reason, I suddenly felt a wave of sadness. The marriage alliance between our families had been Hendrix’s grandmother’s idea from the start.

the table.
Seeing this, Hendrix immediately grabbed my wrist and asked, “What’s the meaning of this?”
His grandmother, realizing what was happening, quickly spoke up, “Yvonne, are you upset with Hendrix in some way?”
I pulled my wrist free from Hendrix’s grip and calmly replied, “No, I’m here to break off the engagement.”
Hendrix frowned, looking at me in disbelief.
“Why?”
I stared into his eyes and replied, “Why? Don’t you know the reason why?”
A flash of panic crossed his face, and he hurriedly responded, “It was you who told me to save Yana first.”
I laughed coldly at him and said, “I was just testing you.”
Hendrix was at a loss for words, and his grandmother let out a long sigh before speaking, ” I heard about what happened yesterday. If you want to call off the engagement, I won’t stop you. Since that’s the case…”
“Grandma!”
Hendrix suddenly interrupted, his eyes fixed on me as he spoke each word slowly, ”

Yvonne, I will never agree to break off this engagement.”
I looked at him, amused. In my previous life, he had pined for Yana for five years. Now, what more could he want when I stepped aside voluntarily?
I had thought he would rush to marry her as soon as possible since he had loved her so deeply.
“If that’s the case, tomorrow I’ll find the media and publicly cancel the engagement myself. It’ll put the Zuckerman family’s reputation on the line.”
Without waiting for a response, I turned and left the Zuckerman household, not bothering to see the expression on Hendrix’s face.
