Chapter 4
But at this moment, there was nothing about her demeanor that conveyed even a hint of vulnerability.
Declan didn’t let her off the hook. His voice was low and demanding as he pressed her, bringing up what had happened earlier that morning.
“Didn’t you say you’d be open with me? That you wouldn’t hide anything? Then why were you clutching your phone this morning?”
Camilla hesitated, trying to keep up the facade, but under Declan’s relentless questioning, she could only admit she hadn’t been seeing anyone else behind his back.
Reluctantly, she handed over her phone. Declan stared at the screen filled with urgent payment notices, and even I was taken aback. I had thought Camilla’s debts, which she supposedly carried into the divorce, amounted to just a few hundred thousand.
But to my shock, the total was nearly 2 million, almost half of the entire company’s cash
flow.
Once she confessed, Camilla, no longer anxious, looked at Declan with a new gleam in her
eyes.
“I know it seems like a lot, but compared to your company, it’s a drop in the bucket. If you help me pay it off, we’ll save so much on interest!”
Declan had spent so much time trying to convince me that Camilla had come back to him out of love. But now, as her words echoed in the air, his misplaced confidence finally started to falter.
He handed the phone back to her, his face hardening.
“The numbers on that account reflect the company’s total revenue. It’s not available cash; I can’t just pull it out to pay off your debts. For now, just leave it. You’ve been in debt for months, and nothing’s really happened, has it?”
I saw Camilla’s face turning cold in response.
“Declan, is this what your ‘love‘ looks like? Is this how you’re going to marry me? You know I need help, and you can help me, but you won’t? You’re just going to leave me to carry this burden?”
Declan, who had begun to waver, shot back, “Then what about your ‘love‘ for me? The regret you feel for us separating, is that real? Do you love me, or do you love my company?”
The tension between them was thick, and I couldn’t help but laugh under my breath in the quiet cabin.

I had imagined that their love was unshakeable, something solid enough to last. That was why I had signed my mother and myself up for a five–day trip. But judging by how things were going, they probably wouldn’t even last three days.
True love? So this was what it looked like? I felt like I had truly seen everything now.
In the end, Camilla’s debt didn’t get paid back. Declan snatched the computer away, preparing to turn off the screen:
Camilla panicked and lunged for it.
But she was too slow, and Declan had already closed it with a firm press of his hand.
Frustrated, Camilla raised her hand and slapped him across the chest.
The force of her push, combined with the fact that Camilla was now in a man’s body, made Declan lose his balance. He stumbled backward, crashing into the wall and falling hard to the floor.
Camilla quickly caught up to him, slapping him across the face, then snatching the computer from his hands.
“You can’t even spare me a little money! You’re so cheap, yet you still have the audacity to say you love me. I must be blind to have ever chosen you!”
Fuming, she tapped rapidly on the computer, keeping the screen lit.
She glared at him.
“Give me the password. I need to pay my debt.”
Her slap had been uncontrolled, and it landed once again on Declan’s face. His cheek swelled, and blood began to pour from his nose
As Camilla glared down at him, the look in Declan’s eyes turned murderous. It was clear he hated her for this; his eyes were practically burning with rage, as if he wanted nothing more than to tear her apart.
But then, in an instant, his gaze changed, as Camilla grabbed his chin and slapped him again.
“Still don’t get it? I’m Declan now. I’m the boss of this company, and you’re just a divorced woman buried in debt! Do yourself a favor and give me the password. Get me that money to pay off what I owe, or I’ll toss you out on the streets, carrying my debts!”
Her threats hung in the air, but Declan remained unmoved.
Camilla stood above him, her eyes hard. Then, she suddenly froze, repeating her final words to herself under her breath.

“I’ll toss you out on the streets, carrying my debts…”
Before she knew it, Camilla burst into wild laughter.
“That’s right! Now I’m Declan! I don’t have any debts. I’m the boss! You’re the one drowning in debt, not me! Now I don’t need to pay anything. It’s not my problem anymore. If I pay off your debts, what’s left for me to spend?”
