Chapter 6
The soft, sweet Norman on the plane was now causing havoc in the room, leaving nothing
unscathed.
When Nydia looked over, Norman was standing on the bed, clutching the last porcelain figurine in his small hands. He raised it high above his head, clearly ready to hurl it to the
floor.
The floor was already littered with shattered fragments. If he jumped down, he might get hurt.
Eddie, who had appeared distant and cold back on the plane, now radiated an aura so forbidding it made people instinctively keep their distance. Standing near the doorway, he asked sharply, “How much longer until the psychologist arrives?”
“They’re on their way, but there’s been a delay because… There were stray bullets on the road.”
The air in the room grew even more suffocating.
However, Norman seemed completely unfazed by the tension. Tears streamed down his flushed cheeks as he glared defiantly and smashed the figurine onto the ground.
The sharp crash of breaking porcelain set everyone’s nerves on edge.
Eddie narrowed his eyes, his voice carrying a trace of irritation. “Go, bring in another batch of things for him to smash.”
Nydia couldn’t take it anymore. She angrily shoved Eddie. “Are you out of your mind?”
She stepped closer, standing between Eddie and Norman.
She extended her hand toward Norman, speaking softly, “Don’t move around, okay? You’ll get hurt. Let me come over to you.”
Norman’s tear–filled eyes lit up the moment he saw her. “Hug!” he cried, stretching his small arms toward her.
Nydia had just lifted her foot to take a step when Eddie, standing beside her, instantly darkened. “Do not touch strangers!” he ordered, his voice cold and firm.
Nydia shot him a glance, thinking he must be out of his mind. Ignoring him completely, she stepped over the shards on the floor and walked toward Norman, who stood pitifully on the bed.
She scooped him up into her arms without hesitation. “Throw caution to the wind and live life
to the fullest.”
Norman burst into giggles, his teary face lighting up. “You are the best!”
The bodyguards were frozen in shock.

Nobody had ever dared to go against Eddie before. Those who had tried were all met with their end. They wondered if Nydia was tired of living.
Eddie pressed his thin lips together, his eyes as cold and sharp as ice. The intensity of his gaze was enough to freeze anyone in their tracks, making it feel like their bones might crack under the weight of it.
No one dared to make a sound, all expecting to witness something bloody at any moment.
And yet…
No one could tell how long the tense silence lasted before Eddie suddenly let out a cold laugh.
Just like that, the suffocating pressure in the room disappeared entirely.
The bodyguards collectively exhaled in relief.
On the other hand, Nydia was entirely focused on checking Norman for injuries. Once she confirmed that Norman wasn’t hurt, she immediately turned and started heading for the door
with him in her arms.
She had zero tolerance for children being mistreated. If a family couldn’t take proper care of their child, then it was better for professionals to step in.
However, she had only taken a few steps before someone blocked her way.
“Ms. Vega, you can’t leave.”
If Nydia hadn’t already figured out who Eddie really was, she would have to be utterly clueless at this point.
Eddie was a distinguished heir from a prominent family, the third in line, and one of the top financiers in Elipus. His wealth was immeasurable, yet his methods were ruthless, earning him the reputation of a cold–blooded figure in the business world.
It was said that his influence stretched across the globe, and no one dared challenge him.
But Nydia wasn’t afraid. She was just a doctor, with no power to threaten him. If he truly wanted her dead, he would have acted already. So, she remained calm and spoke evenly.
“I never said I was leaving.”
She carried Norman out of the children’s room and into a smaller living area. Settling onto the soft couch, she gently patted his back, her touch warm and soothing.
For some reason, there was something about her presence that radiated a calming aura, soothing anyone near her.
“You must have figured out who I am.” Eddie suddenly appeared in the doorway, looking down at her from above.
It was the first time Eddie had stood to have a conversation. The people around them looked on in shock, unable to believe their eyes.
Nydia nodded and replied, “So what? Does it matter? Is being powerful and ruthless your reason for hurting this child?”
She didn’t like getting involved in other people’s affairs, but seeing Norman treated this way was more than she could bear. This was personal now.
She hadn’t thought of the consequences, but even if they weren’t favorable, she would face
them.
After all, if Nydia stood by and did nothing today, nobody would stand up for her when she faced unfair treatment in the future.
Her actions, boldly criticizing Eddie with barely concealed anger, were only plunging her deeper into a dangerous situation.
What awaited her was probably an even crueler fate. The bodyguards couldn’t help but silently mourn for her. It was courageous, but she wouldn’t have the chance to be brave again.
However, the next moment, Eddie narrowed his eyes and spoke in a deep, commanding tone, his presence overwhelming everyone in the room
It was an offer no one could refuse.
“I’ll make you a deal. I’ll ensure your safety here, but you take care of Norman.”
ydia paused, stunned into silence.
Eddie, showing unexpected patience, sat across from her, crossing his legs as he waited for her response.
Norman, in her arms, tilted his head back, his eyes suddenly sparkling like fragments of stars. His naturally curly hair brushed against Nydia’s arm almost as if he was trying to show off his cuteness and charm.
But inside, he felt a pang of regret.
If only he had known Nydia was coming, he would have behaved better and not acted like a brat who broke things. It was all Eddie’s fault for not giving him a heads–up.
At this thought, he shot Eddie a furtive glare.
“I have one condition.”
Nydia thought for a long moment before speaking, her tone deliberate. “Not just here. Even when we return home, I need to be guaranteed absolute safety.”
Eddie wasn’t surprised by her additional condition. He nodded, his response simple. “Deal.
Chapter 6
In Elipus, Mick woke up with a headache from a hangover, only to realize he was lying on the couch without a blanket.
His son, Ted was curled up on the floor, holding a pillow. Ted was still fast asleep.
The floor was a mess, with remnants of his vomit scattered around. Mick’s expression darkened as he saw the disarray.
“Nydia, why didn’t you clean this up?”
He growled, but when he didn’t get a response, the noise startled Ted, who had been sleeping on the floor. Ted blinked open his eyes, his gaze dazed. After a moment, it seemed like he remembered something.
“Ah, it hurts! It hurts so much!” he cried, clutching his arm.
Mick was already frustrated, and the sound of Ted crying only made his head feel like it was splitting open.
“Stop crying.”
He snapped. “Why can’t you just speak calmly?”
Ted immediately stopped crying, looking up at him with pleading eyes. “Dad, my arm hurts so
much.”
Ted didn’t remember how he ended up on the floor, but his arm was bruised and swollen, and the pain kept him from lifting it.
Mick leaned against the couch and pulled out his phone. The first contact on his list was Nydia. Without hesitation, he dialed her number.
She was working the night shift again.
He thought to himself that maybe it was time for Nydia to quit her job and stay home as at
housewife.
