Chapter 21
Ted froze. His fever–flushed face was filled with disbelief.
Then, a piercing wail broke out. It was sharp enough to hurt one’s eardrums.
“Ah! How dare you pinch me! What right do you have to hurt me?”
Though he was ill, he had the surprising strength to shove Mona so hard that she stumbled. The commotion drew the attention of bystanders, who began whispering and pointing.
Mona’s anger flared, but she had to suppress it for now. “Ted, I never did that. I just wanted you to see a doctor. You’re sick, so behave.”
Ted yanked his hand free from hers. “You did pinch me! You’re a bad woman!
Nydia had never hurt him physically. No matter what he did, she would always reason with him with patience and share countless short stories to help him understand.
Mona threw her hands in frustration. She wished she could just leave Ted there and walk away, but Mick hadn’t finalized his divorce. She hadn’t taken Nydia’s place and couldn’t afford to reveal her true colors for now..
She gritted her teeth and feigned a look of affection. “Look, how could I ever bear to hurt you? That was just my way of showing you love.
“You’ve always known that physical touch is another love language, right? I’m just heartbroken to see you sick, and my love and guilt for you got tangled up.
“That was the only way I could express my feelings.
Ted was too weak to cry. He swayed unsteadily on his feet due to the fever. “Is that true?”
He blinked his eyes which were now hazy with confusion. It seemed as if he couldn’t think any longer.
“Of course it is.” Mona seized the chance to hold him steady so the doctor could examine him. It turned out he had pneumonia and needed to be hospitalized.
Just as she thought she could finally catch a break, the first thing they did at the hospital was draw blood.
The moment Ted saw the nurse holding a syringe, he screamed in terror and refused to let the nurse anywhere near him.
When they finally got to pin his arm down, he lashed out and kicked the nurse hard in the leg. The nurse’s tray clattered to the floor with sharp noises.
“What’s going on? As a parent, can’t you even hold down your child?” The nurse grumbled as she shot Mona an impatient glare.
This was a private hospital, and the nurse was accustomed to dealing with wealthy clients and celebrities. Mona’s status as a rising star held no weight here.
“Hold him still already! What a hassle!”

the scolding, but she dared not lose her temper. She
silently took note of the nurse’s name instead.
“What are you standing there for? Hug the child and lock his legs!” Even more impatient now,
the nurse demonstrated how Mona was supposed to get it done.
Mona had no choice but to bite her tongue and hold Ted tightly. But the latter violently struggled, so the nurse had to call for help..
Only then could the nurse get to work and begin the disinfection process.
Ted was so terrified that veins bulged on his temples, and his cries grew louder. “No! It hurts! Ah!”
Once the needle pierced his skin and blood flowed into the syringe, his eyes widened in shock. All the cries came to an abrupt stop.
Mona felt a warm damp sensation spreading over her leg. She froze.
Before she could register what was happening, the nurse muttered irritably, “Did he wet himself? Didn’t I remind you to make sure he uses the bathroom before the blood draw?”
The urine dripped onto the floor and stained the nurse’s shoes. Her expression darkened.
Meanwhile, Mona went still as if she’d been struck by lightning. What did the nurse mean? Had Ted wet himself on her?
