Once Mona arrived at the hotel, she sank into the tub for a relaxing bath and sipped on a glass
of red wine.
Just as she settled into her bed, she received a call from Gla. Before the latter could speak, a child’s cries came through the phone.
“Mona, you’d better come back. I can’t handle him.
“And Mr. Wilcher’s assistant, Mr. Logan, is asking for you. He’s starting to suspect something’s wrong.”
Mona’s face filled with resignation as rage shot straight to the top of her head. “I was just about to sleep!” she roared.
Gia sounded like she was on the verge of tears. “There’s nothing I can do. If you don’t come back, Mr. Logan might call Mr. Wilcher himself.”
Mona hung up the phone in resentment. Then, she changed her clothes and took a cab back to the hospital.
Ted cried incessantly. The nurse inserting the IV lost her patience and took it all out on Mona again.
Mona thought she could catch a quick nap after finally getting the IV in and finishing the drip, but the nurse came in for ward rounds.
The noise woke Ted and triggered another round of deafening wails.
Mona was beyond irritated as she battled the urge to strangle Ted. Gia stepped in to calm things down and keep her temper under control.
She managed to catch a little sleep in the second half of the night, but when the nurse returned for rounds and found that Ted had a high fever, this led to another scolding session.
Moan broke down. The once–glamorous rising star of the entertainment industry was now haggard and completely drained of energy.
“When will this nightmare end!” She pounded her fist on the bed.
Ted had been sobbing and miserable from his fever. He flinched and began wailing once more. Mona clutched her ears and felt like she was on the verge of a heart attack.
Gia stepped in to soothe Ted, while Royce turned on the lights and tried to calm the situation. No one bothered to check on Mona.
The ordeal lasted another two hours. By the time everything was settled, the sun was rising on
the horizon.
Chapter
Mona was utterly defeated. Though Ted was her best weapon against Nydia, she’d rather take the long way around than continue dealing with him.
“Gia.” She called Gia over while Ted was asleep and lowered her voice. “Mick will come by in the morning. You must help me put on an act.”
Gia was stunned. “Huh?”
“Don’t overthink. Just follow my instructions.” Mona looked around to make sure Royce had gone to rest before whispering her plan.
At 8:00 am, Mick arrived at the hospital with breakfast.
He entered the room in a hurry and found Ted still asleep while Mona was adjusting his blanket. She heard the door open and immediately turned around.
“Mick, are you here for Ted? He’s been well–behaved. He’s just finished his IV and probably needs to sleep a little longer.”
As Mick looked at her, a flicker of an unreadable expression crossed his eyes.
Whenever Ted fell ill, Nydia would care tirelessly for him. She’d managed fine at first, but after two to three days, she’d become disheveled.
He couldn’t stand seeing her so unkempt as his wife, so he criticized her for it. And Nydia started fighting him over such a trivial matter.
