For a moment, Mick felt as if his chest was stuffed with endless layers of cotton that suffocated him greatly.
His mind flashed with scenes of his time with Nydia.
When he’d been blind, he’d resisted walking on his own for fear of collisions. Nydia had lined every sharp corner and edge in their home with protective padding and led him around to help him memorize every corner of the house.
Whenever he managed to avoid obstacles, she’d clap her hands joyfully. When he was finally independent, she’d jump up and down in joy.
Back then, he’d wondered how there could be someone like Nydia, who selflessly warmed him like the bright sun.
When his vision returned and he resumed managing the family business, she turned around and got herself admitted to a top–tier hospital as a doctor.
-Regardless of how busy she was, he’d always come home to dinner she cooked for him.
After Ted was born, her life got busier. Yet she still kept their family in perfect order.
It made him complacent. He started to see his wife and child as mere fixtures in his life. Even if Nydia wasn’t in his life, he’d be as successful.
But now as he stared at the wedding ring, his heart felt hollow. Even if he didn’t want to admit it, regret slowly welled up within him and took up all of his heart.
As the night grew darker, he sat there motionless and rejected several calls that came in from the hospital. Instead, he instructed his secretary to arrange for a caregiver and professional nutritionist to handle the situation.
Then, he received a call from Mona. Her voice carried a sultry note as if she’d drunk too much. “Mick, I’m at the film set. Could you pick me up?
Mick felt irritated and was about to refuse when the image of Nydia and Nelson’s intimacy from earlier flashed in his mind. He replied, “Okay.”
Mona lost all traces of drunkenness as she quickly summoned her makeup artist for touch–ups.
She received a text from Gia. “The nutritionist said Mr. Ted is asleep. Even if he wakes up halfway through, he won’t interrupt your time with Mr. Wilcher.‘
“Good. Set up the room, and remember to act as if I have no idea about the decorations. Tell Mick it was all of your doing.”
Gia nodded. “Don’t worry about that. I’ve gathered photos of you and Mr. Wilcher from youth, made them into an album, and placed them on the bedside table.”

Mona thought for a moment and tapped her fingers lightly on the table. “Here’s what we’ll do. After we’re in the room, you pretend to knock over the album and say…”
Soon, she received updates that Mick had arrived at the film set. A smile tugged at the corner of her lips.
Though Mick and Nydia hadn’t officially divorced, Nydia’s unpredictable behavior escalated Mona’s sense of urgency. She couldn’t care less about Ted being sick as securing Mick had to
come first.
A single night together and their bond of the past would ensure that Mick sped up the divorce and married her instead.
With this thought, Mona lifted her dress and walked out. Once she spotted Mick, she approached him with a look of delighted surprise. “Mick, you got here so quickly!”
Mick’s eyes swept over her sexy red dress and flickered with emotions.
“Mick, could you come with me to the hotel to grab something? After that, we’ll visit Ted at the hospital.” With that, she hooked her arm around his.
Mick didn’t pull away and followed her into the hotel instead.
Once they opened the door, a chorus of happy birthday filled the room followed by a birthday
song.
Mona froze, and her face filled with surprise. “My birthday? I was so busy I completely forgot!
Gia stepped forward. “You’ve been so busy with filming and taking care of Mr. Ted, Ms. Poole, This is a small birthday gift.”
