Chapter 48
Just as he was about to finish his sentence, a sudden pain shot through his chest, causing him to instinctively cover the area.
At that moment, his phone began to ring. Due to the discomfort in his body, the speakerphone mode was activated by accident.
“Mr. Barton Senior, we have man
to reach you at last. After reviewing your previous chest x–ray, it appears that there may be a foreign object present in your blood vessels. We advise you to come to the hospital immediately.”
The judges‘ panel was equipped with microphones, and the words were spread to every corner
of the venue.
The venue fell completely silent once again. Horner felt a twinge of pain in his chest that seemed to worsen by the second. He could even taste a metallic tinge in his breath, like blood.
“Grandpa!” Hearing that, Buck turned around anxiously to look.
Only then did he realize Homer’s complexion was unnaturally white, and he was clutching his chest tightly.
“Quick, call an ambulance!”
The scene instantly turned into chaos.
“Mr. Barton Senior!”
Despite any lingering resentment, Nydia pushed it aside and immediately tended to Mr. Barton Senior. The ambulance arrived shortly after, and they all rushed to get him inside and on the way to the hospital.
Only then did the people in the venue come to their senses.
“Was that not an illusion just now?”
“Did Nydia really spot the lesion?”
“Does she have x–ray vision or something?”
The other judges gathered around Nydia and asked her how she had examined the lesion. All of a sudden, Nydia was the center of attention.
With a poised demeanor, Nydia faced Eddie and expressed her gratitude.
“Mr. Houle, I truly appreciate your assistance earlier,” she said calmly.
Eddie’s face remained stole as he said, “I made a promise, and I have faith in you.”
She was shocked. When she first suggested this idea, she didn’t think Eddie could make it a

reality. Not only did he accomplish it, but he also kept fulfilling his promise every step of the
way.
Even a stranger could have done what Eddie did while her own husband and son… Reflecting the behavior of her husband and son earlier, Nydia couldn’t help but feel pity for her past self and the struggles she faced.
With the truth finally revealed, she purposely avoided eye contact with Mick.
Mona noticed this from her spot on stage and furrowed her brow, glancing toward Mick for any reaction. Mick, in turn, was gazing at Nydia, his expression one of admiration.
She felt a shiver run down her spine, and without warning, she blurted out, “Did Dr. Vega ask about Mr. Barton Senior’s health before? How could she be so certain that it was a foreign object in his blood vessels?”
As soon as these words were spoken, the people around couldn’t help showing a look of suspicion on their faces.
That’s right. Nydia was a doctor. It had been quite easy for her to inquire about internal information. Only by knowing the result in advance could she have been so certain.
Moreover, that phone call came at such a timely moment. It was possible that it had been arranged beforehand. Those who had highly praised Nydia just now immediately distanced themselves from her.
Nelson’s expression turned serious. “Ms. Poole, it would be best if you could back up your statements with evidence.”
Mona gestured helplessly. “I’m just expressing my own concerns. Is it possible that you are trying to censor me, Dr. McBride?”
Nydia exhaled sharply and jeered, “Everyone has the right to speak freely, but make sure you’re not committing slander–it’s a crime!
“Setting aside any concerns about the privacy of Mr. Barton Senior’s medical treatment, it is not common practice for doctors to divulge patients‘ conditions. This goes against medical- ethics! Ms. Poole should understand this fundamental principle, especially with her medical background, right?”
The majority of those in attendance were studying medicine. Nydia’s words were clearing their name and venting their anger for them. The room erupted into a round of applause and cheers at her remarks.
Mona was taken aback, and her cheeks flushed. She turned to Mick, hoping he would intervene.
Only then, Mick said slowly, “Let’s just leave for how since it was all a misunderstanding, and the competition is already finished.”
