Nydia thought it would take longer, but to her surprise, the bodyguards arrived just ten
minutes after the call ended. These bodyguards carried an intimidating aura that made it clear they were not to be approached.
Eddie’s influence was unmistakable. Although Nydia was reluctant to harbor ill intentions toward Mick, she couldn’t ignore that this was a crucial moment in their divorce, and she didn’t want to complicate things.
She also knew that if she didn’t act on Eddie’s offer, he would likely be unsettled. In a way, it
was a win–win situation.
“Thank you for your help. I need you to come with me to the Wilcher residence.”
Without hesitation, the bodyguards moved aside, allowing her to go ahead. Nydia let out a sigh. She had been married to Mick for many years, and she hoped the things she feared
wouldn’t come true.
Twenty minutes later, Nydia found herself standing in front of the Wilcher residence.
Six years ago, she had entered this house with excitement, nervousness, and a sense of joy. She thought she would build a happy, fulfilling life with the man she had long admired.
Even when she found out that Mick had gone blind, she still chose to marry him. In the beginning, he was extremely irritable.
He would shout at her to leave, using harsh words. Yet, she bore it all and encouraged him not to feel inferior. Because he had just been faced with a setback, he could always find another way to see the world.
Slowly, with her consistent encouragement, Mick’s emotional state stabilized.
Mick once said, “Meeting you was like a second chance from life, a new opportunity I never saw coming. It’s enough for me to live this life with you.”
At that moment, Nydia’s heart felt an overwhelming warmth, as though it had been filled with pure happiness.
But then Mick said, “I’m practically useless now. I can only live with the Wilcher family’s support. I don’t want to burden you. Once you finish your studies, please leave me. I’ll give you some money so you can live comfortably for the rest of your life.”
Nydia didn’t respond right away. She didn’t say yes or no. She had first seen Mick at a school. event, full of life and ambition, and had secretly fallen for him.
When she learned that he had become blind due to an accident and needed someone to marry
him, she immediately volunteered,
She had thought that if Mick truly didn’t love her she would leave as promised, without asking for anything in return. But it seemed fate wouldn’t let a sincere heart go unrewarded.
She had developed a prescription to improve vision, and after a period of treatment, Mick finally recovered. However, this placed her in an awkward situation.
Her relationship with Mick, which had once been familiar and close, gradually became distant again. Until the day they had agreed to part ways, after dinner at the Starbook Residence, Mick had hugged her. That day, their marriage was officially solidified.
At that point, she never brought up the idea of leaving. Unfortunately…
Nydia came back to her senses, looking at the familiar surroundings and reflecting on how things had changed.
“You’re back, Mrs. Wilcher,” Helen greeted her warmly. But when she saw the bodyguards behind Nydia, her expression darkened. “Mrs. Wilcher, what is all this about?”
Nydia turned and gave a few instructions to the bodyguards, who then took a step back and stood guard outside.
“Helen, did you know I was coming back?” Nydia asked.
Helen hesitated, her gaze shifting. “I come out every day to clean.”
“Oh?” Nydia smiled. “So it looks like your daughter hasn’t become Mrs. Wilcher just yet.”
Helen’s face darkened even more.
“Mrs. Wilcher, what are you implying? If you keep talking like that, people might think my daughter is trying to climb the social ladder, trying to compete with you.”
