Chapter 96
But Mick suddenly pushed Mona away.
She was wearing high heels and stumbled, nearly twisting her ankle. Her eyes instantly filled with tears, and she looked at him in disbelief.
“Mick! What are you doing?”
Just as Mick was about to say something, he suddenly heard the host’s voice.
“Next, let’s welcome the clown duo!”
His body stiffened, and he couldn’t help but glance up at the stage.
Seeing his sudden shift, Mona, sensing something was off, followed his gaze.
At that moment, Nadia, holding Norman’s hand, was already on stage. A man wearing a clown mask followed her, appearing to assist her, carrying a prop box.
The kids in the audience were immediately drawn in, whispering excitedly.
“Is that Norman’s mom?”
“Wow! She’s so cool! A clown!!
“Oh my gosh! She made a parrot appear!”
“She must be some kind of magician!”
“Wow! The streamers exploded! So cool!”
“She made a little bear balloon. I want one!”
“Norman is so lucky. I want to visit his house and watch his mom do magic.”
Ted, who had been ashamed and keeping his head down, now felt like he could barely face anyone. He had even considered denying that Nadia was his mom if any of his classmates asked him about it.
However, to his surprise, no one asked. In fact, the kids seemed surprisingly accepting of the clown.
When Nadia made a white dove appear, the bird flew around the hall before returning to her arm. The children screamed in excitement and rushed to the front of the stage.
Nadia continued to make balloon animals, creating many shapes. To avoid accidents, she had the children line up to receive their balloons.
The kids obediently queued up,
and once they had their balloons, they happily jumped around.
“That’s my mom!”
Ted didn’t know when he had joined the line, but now, desperate, he turned to explain to his
classmates.
The classmate glanced back and snorted.
“You used to steal our toys, and now you’re stealing someone else’s mom?”
Ted angrily shoved him away.
“That’s my mom! Norman stole her from me!”
The classmate wasn’t backing down and shoved him back hard.
“Your mom’s over there sitting though. She used to come to pick you up. I’m not stupid!”
Feeling betrayed, Ted snapped, “She’s not my mom! She’s a friend of my dad!”
The classmate seemed taken aback for a moment, then after thinking for a bit, seemed to realize the situation.
He looked up at Ted, eyes wide. “Oh, so you’re just a big fool, huh?”
Ted was so angry that he was about to go after him.
“Well, if a woman tries to take my dad, me and my mom will kick the lady out!
“And you’re okay with hanging out with a bad woman? I’m never talking to you again!”
With that, the classmate quickly ran ahead a few steps to get his bear balloon. Then, he turned around and made a silly face at Ted.
Unable to contain his frustration, Ted charged forward. When Nadia bent down to give another child their balloon, he grabbed her hand with all his might.
“Mom, you tell them! You’re my mom, not that little monster’s!”
Norman, who had never liked school and had been called a “little monster” behind his back, froze when he heard that nickname. The moment he heard it again, his smile faded, and his face turned pale.
Nadia immediately sensed something was wrong with his mood. She quickly pulled her hand away from Ted and bent down to scoop Norman into her arms, comforting him.
Now burning with jealousy, Ted climbed onto the stage and pulled at Nadia’s wrist with all his strength.
“Mom, stay away from him and tell them you’re my mom!”
