“Don’t worry about me. I’m sure you already know what’s coming for you,” Nathan said as he pressed his hand against my belly. I immediately tensed up in pain.
“Get your secretary to handle the company transfer right now. If you do, I might still consider keeping you. If not, you’ll be left to fend for yourself.”
Q
“Hey, what are you doing?!” A nurse entered. Nathan quickly removed his hand from my belly.
She gave him an annoyed look. “She just gave birth. You shouldn’t be touching her belly.”
“What happened to your face?” The nurse noticed the egg yolk all over my face and shouted at Nathan. “What’s going on here?!”
Before Nathan could answer, Beatrice started crying. “Harriet thought it was pathetic that I brought eggs to see her. She… tried to throw the eggs at me, but she didn’t have the strength. So, they landed on herself.
“I tried to wipe it off, but she got mad and told me to leave. She even bit me.”
Beatrice held out her hand to show a mark. The nurse looked a little surprised but did not examine it closely. Given the tension between me and them, she seemed to believe Beatrice.
“You’ve just had a baby, Harriet. Don’t get too worked up.”
“She’s lying!”
Before the nurse could respond, my secretary, Cameron Fable rushed in. She was young and was barely twenty–two years old.
Cameron looked disheveled and visibly upset as she rushed in and stood protectively in front of me. She turned to the nurse and said, “It was this old lady who threw eggs at Ms. Harriet! These two are just taking advantage of her weak state and harassing her!”
“Who do you think you are, you brat?! Stop talking nonsense! Everyone online knows what Harriet has done!” Beatrice shot back.
Cameron was about to respond. However, the nurse interrupted. She clearly did not want to get involved.
She turned to me. “I’m here to let you know that your daughter’s condition isn’t good. She needs to be moved to the intensive care unit. I need your consent to do that.”
“No, you can’t!” Nathan interrupted before I could say anything.
My eyes widened. Just as the nurse was about to leave, I grabbed her arm tightly. She turned back to look at me.
Nathan tried to pull her away from my grip. “You can go now. We’re not continuing treatment.”
