I seized the moment to rush forward and grab her hand. Biting down on her wrist, I tried to wring the knife away from her.
She was furious and howled, “Clarice, you lied to me!”
She released the knife which then dropped to the floor and bounced underneath the tea table.
Both of us leaped after the knife at the same time.
Leo, who was already lying on the ground, managed to seize the knife before us. He jabbed the knife right into Rosette’s back. He glowered and declared, “I told you that you don’t deserve my daughter’s kidney! I will live with the sins I have committed, but you’ll have to pay for my daughter’s life as well!
He was furious and proceeded to repeatedly stab Rosette with the knife.
Spurts of blood scattered everywhere. I felt my legs collapse underneath me as I slumped to the floor.
Soon, Rosette, who had just recovered from her sickness, turned into a lifeless sack of meat on the floor. She died before the ambulance even arrived.
On the other hand, Leo got lucky because Rosette missed his vital parts both times she stabbed him.
After he murdered Rosette, he turned himself in and ended up getting dealt a life sentence. He also appointed a lawyer to work out the divorce proceedings with me. Every company, real estate, and stock registered under his name was transferred to me whereas the liquid assets

were given over to his mother.
The lawyer then passed on a message from him to me.

“I don’t have the face to see Clarice anymore. I have let both her and my daughter down. I deserve to spend the rest of my life behind bars. It’s the only way I can ever hope to make up for my mistakes. I don’t think they will forgive me even if I die in here.”
The lawyer also mentioned that Leo seemed to have lost the will to live at all. He hoped I would offer some words of encouragement at least.
I scoffed and advised him, “You can humor his confessions all you want, but don’t ever take them seriously. If he did want to end it all, he would have done it himself before the police even showed up to arrest him.
“The only reason he surrendered his assets and asked for my forgiveness is just because he couldn’t deal with the guilt! Go back there and tell him that I will never forgive him, and Dianne will never either!
“He deserves to suffer for the rest of his life. I want the guilt to eat away at him every day until he dies. That’s what he deserves!”
By the time everything was sorted out, nearly half a year had passed.
I have packed my luggage and brought my daughter’s portrait with me. I am ready to embark on a long journey. Since my daughter has never been to the Scandinavian countryside to see the snow, I want to bring her there.
Nothing fascinated her more than mountainous landscapes and wide, open plains. She will also get to see the aurora lights. I want her to take in their beauty.
Fulfilling her wish is the best cure for my heartache. I am going to live a fruitful life from here onward.
I look forward to a good night’s sleep tonight as I will think about her smile as I doze off to slumberland.
