Chapter 24
Ava was taken aback, and she looked at Gabriel
Gabriel swallowed, and his Adam’s apple bobbed. Ava was staring at him with her beautiful, crystal–like eyes, and he could not hold back anymore.
He reached out and patted Ava’s head.
This made Sophia feel bitter inside. She clenched her hands into tight fists and did not even feel pain when her nails dug into her palm.
Michelle’s eyes widened at the sight.
Their families drivers had all arrived now, and it was time to go.
Wendy pointedat Michelle. “Hey, Michelle, do you still remember our bet? I will let you go today, but you must clean the bathroom for one month starting tomorrow. Do not try to slack off.”
This hit Michelle in the guts, and herpanic showed on her face. “Sophia, Cici, I am leaving now,” she said hurriedly.
Wendy lifted her chin and scoffed coldly.
Michelle could escape today, but she could not run every day.
Cici looked at Matthew, but he was looking at Gabriel and Ava.
He was just waiting helplessly.
Ava had dislocated the wrist of the last person who had tried to touch her head
But today, Ava was so obedient and friendly after getting her head patted.
The treatment was completely different!
A feeling of injustice appeared inside Matthew.
Cici gathered her courage and called out, “Matthew, do you want to grab a coffee together?”

Sophia was instantly all alone.
The setting sun lost its last bit of light, and the sky darkened.
Sophia looked at Ava. Gabriel and Wendy were both standing on Ava’s side,
Sophia clenched her fists.
As soon as Ava arrived, everyone focused on her and could not see Sophia anymore!
If Ava went to her birthday party in the future, she would steal the spotlight from Sophia too!
“Ava, let’s go,” Gabriel said.
Ava checked the time and shook her head. “I have other plans today, so I must go back.”
Gabriel noticed that Ava said “go back” instead of “go home. For some reason, his heart twinged at this.
This girl did not have a home anymore.
The Walker family was not her home.
But she still looked so strong and resilient.
Perhaps her cold and distant feeling was just a shield she put up to protect herself.
“Okay.”
Gabriel’s lips curved into a slight smile. Warmth filled his eyes like ice melting.

Ava looked at Wendy and smiled. “Bye, Wendy.”
Wendy could not help but smile as well. “Bye, Ava.” a
Wendy watched as Ava walked toward Sophia. After they left, Wendy clutched her chest dramatically. “Gabe, I can’t anymore. Oh my, I can’t! Ava is so pretty when she smiles. She’s so beautiful that I feel butterflies in my stomach!”
Wendy loved eye candy.

Gabriel was usel to her antics.
He and Wendy got into their car. In the distance, Sophia and Avgot into their car as well.
The sky had darkened gradually.
Wendy glanced at Gabriel. “Cabe, how much longer are you going to stay here for?” she asked.

Gabriel kept coming to Rosemont these two years.
He seemed to be searching for something.
But when people asked, he never answered.

Gabriel reached over and gently flickéd Wendy’s forehead. “Silly girl, focus on your schoolwork. Stop thinking about these things.” he said. His tone was calm, but he still had an affection he reserved for his family.

“Ava,” Sophia spoke up in their car. “It is okay if you do not test well. Remember, you can ask me if you have any questions, and I can teach you.”
The driver listened to their conversation from the front seat.
He could not help but praise Sophia in his mind. She was truly a cultured lady, and it was a pity that her health was not as good.
Everyone liked her. She was kind, well–mannered, and very talented.
She was even caring toward her stepsister. No wonder David and Melissa loved their daughter so much.
Ava did not answer and, instead, looked out the
window.
The next day, Ava went to get
her textbooks.
Thus, she was a bit late when she returned to the classroom.
A big group of students were gathered in the hall. The boys and girls were deep in discussion.
When Ava walked over from the other end of the hall, their voices did not quiet down. Instead, they sounded more excited,

like they purposely wanted Ava to hear them.
“Did you know? Ava worked at a bar before.”
“Oh my gosh! Really? Bars are such messy and dirty places. That sounds scary. Does that she has been sleeping around for a long time?”
“There is nothing strange about that. Before Ava was brought here, she was on the streets and hung out with those gangsters, What do you expect from someone like her?”

Ava walked straight toward the crowd and then stopped.
