As in my previous life, Jonathan publicly confessed his feelings to Sophie under the sky full of fireworks.
Once the fireworks show ended, the three of us quickly bid farewell to Sophie. She was lost in her own joy, oblivious to the tension between us. It wasn’t until we got back to the dorm that we really started processing what had just happened.
Claire was the first to speak, her voice sharp with anger. “So, Sophie and the twins are in a relationship, but they plan to use one of us as a decoy and a tool to have kids?”
At that moment, I couldn’t hold back any longer and spoke the truth–though I kept the fact that I had been reborn to myself.
“Actually, when we took our group photo on the first day of college, I felt like the four of us looked strikingly similar–just that Sophie is more polished than the rest of us.”
I paused, taking a deep breath before continuing. “‘If we all put on makeup, we’d look at least 80 percent alike.”
They both exchanged confused glances, and I could tell they didn’t follow me completely.
“Do you remember when I asked about your family backgrounds when school first started? I had my suspicions back then. Sophie and I both come from, Willowbrook, and her dad even offered me a 50 thousand dollars scholarship. But I refused.”
I looked at Claire and Zoey. “Claire, your dad works for Reed Group. Zoey, your mom works for Lewis Group. All three of us are tied directly to Sophie, and more importantly, we’re all beneath her in this whole power dynamic.
“I’m starting to think that Sophie’s plan might have been in motion since before school even started. That’s why the four of us ended up in the same dorm, despite being in different fields.
Claire was clearly fuming with anger. She grabbed the designer purse that Sophie had given her and threw it into the trash can.
“I’m going to post this video online and expose what those three did. We know the truth now, and we won’t fall for it. But they’ll eventually find someone else to use. Whoever they target next won’t have a good ending. You heard Jonathan–he wants to keep the child and get rid of the mother in the future.”
Zoey quickly intervened. “Don’t be rash. What about your dad’s job if this gets out? What about your future? If you openly go against the Reed and Lewis families, you won’t come out of it unscathed. Exposing them is like throwing eggs at a rock–it’s a fight we can’t win.”
