Chapter 6 Dealing with the Maxwells
Andrea walked into her home, her mother laid there on the couch as she slept soundly, she looked like she had a whole lot of stress but Andrea stood far off as she watched her closely, Her father walked out of the bedroom with a blanket, he saw her standing close to her mother, sensing there was another person in the room she raised her brows up to meet her father’s. “You’re back?” He said walking towards her mother as he wrapped the blanket around her mother.
“What did you two talk about? I could barely hear you because I decided to trust you to tell me so no tot eavesdrop.” He concluded with a sour look on his face.
Andrea sighed as she relaxed her body on the couch,
“Dad? Do you think what I’m about to do right now is right?” She suddenly asked out of the blues with her guilt silently eating her up but she just needed an honest answer.
“It depends on what you want to do Andrea but I know I trained you well enough to know the dangers of the outside world.” He said, but noticed the sad look on her face.
“What’s the problem and what have you done this time? Did you fight with your boss again?…..I told you to quit that job of yours, your manager….”
“Dad! It’s not that okay?” She said in a swift defense as he stared at her with confusion written all over his face.
21 Am about to do something really bad that’s going to help us all.”
“And you’re not thinking of robbing a bank?” He asked her with a worried look patched on his face.
Andrea sighs,” I’m about to get married to the man that was here earlier and in exchange we’ll get to pay for Mom’s medical bills.” She said with a breach of excitement on her face whilst her father started at her like she was going crazy.
“What are you talking about and who is getting married?” He asked again to be sure he heard well the last time.
Andrea swallowed the lump in her throat as she prepared herself to convince her father into accepting to support her weird decision.
“And let me guess, Pamela knows about this stupid plan of yours and still didn’t talk some sense into you?” He asked with his voice rising in anger as her mother tossed a bit. He went quiet for a minute seeing his little talk with her was going to disturb his wife.
Andrea watched her mother then raised her gaze back to her father whose face was boldly written with disappointment.
Andrea sighed as she stood up walking after her as she walked out, standing by the porch as she watched her father run his hand through his head in utter confusion.
“You cannot marry
that man, have you heard of that family? His wife went missing for God knows how long. And besides you just met this man so how come you want to get married to him.” Andrea sighed,” But about mom’s medi…”
“No child of mine would sell herself just to pay bills. What do you think your mother would think of you if she found out the money you used for her medication came from the money paid to give up your happiness and life just because of a piece of bills? He shot glares at her but she sighed then finally said.
“Fine…. I’ll listen but just know I can’t do anything without you?” She added with a warm smile ashes embraced him, her father walked out into the house, she watched him, her hands crested on her necklace all she could do was say,
“I’m sorry dad, but I can’t mom die when I can do something about it.” She added. Then stood up to leave for her bedroom,
Daren packed at the entrance of his mansion, it was a tall glass of beauty, well at least it was beautiful when Sonia was here with him but now it was just there with nothing to impress him again.
“I’m sorry, Sonia I just have to do this and I’m sure if you are here you’ll understand my decision.” He said to himself, his thoughts were then interrupted by the knock on the window glass, he flinched slightly as he looked to see his butler, who looked at him, with worry etched on her face. His brows relaxed then opened the door, she opened the door from outside. “You’ve been here for minutes now. Are you sure that you’re fine?” she asked, taking his briefcase.
He watched her, she was like his second mother,n she had a bit of care and sense of longing for him than his actual mother, well, his mother was the career oriented type and for the most part of his life he had Nanny Jia watch over him, from his first crush to his first relationship to his first deal as the new CEO as the Jenkins Empire’s new face after the death of his father. But here she was still with him, she could have resigned a while ago but she could, she had no husband and dedicated most of her life taking care of him that she had no time for herself or love life.
Daren sighs then wraps his arms around Nanny Jia, “I think I’ve found her.” He told her, her eyes lit up in excitement.
“You did??!!” She asked again and he nodded this time more affirmative.
“So why are you sulking? You should be happy, or did something else happen?”
Daren forced a smile, he was going to present a fake Sonia to the woman he loves the most but it wasn’t intentional he just has to do it. He smiled,
“She needs time before she comes home but I’ll definitely bring her home.” He tells her, as he got out of the car, shutting the car he walked into his house, his eyes roaming everywhere, Andrea would have to play her part to get to know the nooks and cranny of the house and nanny Jia has to leave for a short while.
“Nanny, I’ll be expecting some clients over tomorrow so you should take the day off tomorrow and probably the two days after.” He mentioned, as soon as he walked in she looked at him, he was different, well this wasn’t the first time he brought work home and she had to leave but this was more impromptu.
“Why? You didn’t tell me anything the morning you left?” She asked, leaving him speechless for a while.
“Uhmm….it was an emergency. And besides you do know I have no control over things like this and I want you to have a rest too.” He teased giving her a kiss on the forehead as he walked up to his room as he climbed the stairs,
“You’re not going to eat?” Nanny Jia asked.
“You can set the table but I need to freshen up.” He tells her.
“Daten…” she murmured to herself then walked over to the kitchen to have the chef microwave his food, as she thought of who these visitors were.
