Chapter 6
In the following few days, Reginald and Charlie would lurk in that spot every day, peeping into our living room.
I was so annoyed that I installed curtains on the living room floor–to–ceiling window.
But they got even more excessive and kept showing up on all the paths that Janet and I had to take.
After a week of this, I finally couldn’t stand it anymore.
I made an appointment to meet Reginald at a coffee shop. He hadn’t changed his number.
Reginald said, “You’re finally willing to see me. Charlie was still sleeping, so I didn’t wake him up.”
“There’s no chance of us getting back together ever again,” I said.
Reginald looked a bit down. “I know, but I just want to stay by your side with Charlie. I always feel comfortable when I’m around you.”
I couldn’t help rolling my eyes. “You didn’t think so before. But if you keep following Janet and me like this, I’ll hire bodyguards, move, and call the police.”

Seeing my tough attitude, Reginald suddenly changed his attitude. “Then could you stay with me in this coffee shop for half an hour? Just half an hour.”
Although I was skeptical, I asked, “After half an hour, are you sure you’ll leave here with Charlie?”
For some reason, Reginald paused for a moment. But finally, he nodded.
So the two of us sat in the coffee shop, drinking coffee in silence for half an hour.
To my surprise, he started sending out job applications right in front of me.
I always felt that there was a gaze fixed on me, but it wasn’t from Reginald sitting across from me.
As soon as the half–hour countdown ended, I got up to leave. “Remember what you said just now.”
But as soon as I stood up, I noticed a woman in a black down jacket who had been sitting behind me also got up and followed me out.

I went into a nearby park. As I expected, the woman kept trailing me.
I simply turned around and waited for her. At the same time, I sent a message to Reginald.
Chapter 6
The woman tookofffierlhat, and as I thought, she was an acquaintance, Laureen.
After a few years, sheesemed to belliving an even more comfortablée life, judging from hercomplexion and the luxuriousness of her clothes.
Although they were offordinary styles, they were high–end brands. She was the kind of person who would never treat herself badly.
In contrast, Reginald and Charlite were wearing clothes from a few years ago, and there were evenpatches on their down jackets.
It seemed that after I left, Reginald was stillaas lazy and unmotivated at work as before, and all his money musthavelbeen given to Lauren.
Lauren came up to me and questioned!, “Arewoultrying to steal Reginald from me? Stay away from himintheffuture.”
I said, “I have no such intention at all. Pleaseeepyyour husband and child in check and don’t let them harassme!”
As if she had caught a keyword, she suddenly puffedanther belly and said, “I’m pregnant with Reginald’s child. I haventthhad the chance to tell him yet.”
Reginald, who had received my message, rushed over, pulling Charlie along with him, and happened to hear Lauren’ssworlds.

He gently took off his coat and put it on Lauren. “You’re pregnant. What are you doing out walking around? Hurry back with me.”
Lauren snorted, “If I hadn’t come, would you have gotten back together with this woman?”
Reginald’s eyes dodged. “How could that be? I’m about to go back with you, aren’t I?”
Charlie, who was standing by, immediately started crying and shouting, “I don’t want to go back. I want Mom to go back with me. I want to go to school.”
Lauren slapped Charlie on the head. “What’s the rush to go to school so early? They don’t teach much in the early years of primary school. It’s a waste of money. Aren’t you the smartest kid in the world? I’ll just enroll you in junior high school directly then.”
Charlie completely ignored her and continued shouting at me, “Mom, I’ll listen to you from now on. Let me stay here with you and go to school.”
I said, “When I saved money for your school before, didn’t you use it to save Lauren’s cat? I left you a gold necklace. You can sell it and go to school. Where is it now?”
Charlie was left speechless by my questions. Eventually, he was dragged away by Reginald.
Before leaving, he cried and shouted that he would come back.

I watched the three of them leave and hoped it would be the last
time I saw them.
But ever since getting my number, Reginald had sent me messages now and then.
He also told me that, thanks to me, he had successfully gotten a job as a finance staff in a big company.
I didn’t want to respond, so I just ignored him.
A few days later, Reginald messaged me and told me that Lauren, taking advantage of his position, had stolen a large sum of money from the company to pay off her debts.
The debts were from her secret gambling. But the creditor jacked up the price and told Lauren she needed to pay double.
I didn’t know what he meant by telling me all this, but his next words shocked me.
Reginald continued to message me: [Lauren has run away with Charlie. She said she’s going to find you. They’ve been gone for three days and should be getting close to you soon. Lauren’s mental state is not good. I’m on my way.]
I was stunned, thinking, “Is Reginald waiting for me to be killed by Lauren before telling me this so late?”
