Chapter 2
Aaron came to an abrupt halt and extended his hand to place it on my forehead, a scornful smile spreading across his face.
“Evelyn, do you want to break up with me?
“You aren’t running a fever, but why are you talking nonsense?
“You’ve been with me for eight years. Do you think you can still find another man to marry after our breakup?
“Evelyn, no man will want you. Can you stop making a fuss?”
The tears I had managed to hold back were on the verge of spilling out once more when I heard these words.
He was still aware that we had been together for eight years.
My friends told me that in a long–term relationship, romantic love would be replaced by family bonds.
But without becoming part of my family, Aaron grew more and more dissimilar to what a boyfriend ought to be.
I bit my lip tightly and looked straight up at him.
“There are so many men in the world. You are not my only choice.”

Aaron’s face darkened.
He cast an icy glance at me, and his friends tried to persuade
- me.

“That’s enough. Aaron gave in. Evelyn, don’t go too far.”
“It’s just a wig. Have Aaron get seven wigs for you. Then you can wear a different one every day of the week.”
Once Aaron’s friends ceased their mockery, Rachel chimed in aggrievedly, “This is all my fault. Evelyn, I will pay for your wig. Please don’t be angry with Aaron.”
At the same time, her eyes filled with tears. Her pitiful appearance caused Aaron great distress. Instantly, he glared at me as if I were an enemy with whom he had a long–standing and bitter feud.
“Evelyn, come at me if you are displeased!
“Rachel’s seriously sick. Why do you have to pick on a sick person? You’ve changed a lot. You weren’t like this before!”
I opened my mouth to speak, yet before any words could escape, Rachel clutched her stomach and let out a cry of pain.
“Aaron, it hurts a lot. Help me…”
Aaron pushed me away.
Caught off guard, I stumbled and tripped over a chair.
Chapter 2 “Ouch!”
Aaron didn’t show any concern and roared at me,

“Get the hell out of the way! We just cut your hair. Why are you making a scene? You knew that Rachel was sick, but you still goaded her. If anything happens to her, I will not let you off!”
With that, Aaron left with Rachel in his arms, followed by his
friends.
The man who had been holding my hair lagged behind and nonchalantly tossed a bunch of my long, lustrous hair into the trash can.
I was dumbfounded for a moment and hurriedly crawled over to collect it, bit by bit.
Tears streamed down nonstop.
At that moment, I made up my mind to leave Aaron.

I went to the barbershop to have my hair cut once more.
Meanwhile, I snapped up a hotel’s discount package.
When I went back to pack my belongings, Aaron entered, looking thoroughly exhausted.

At the sight of my suitcase, he instantly lost his temper.
He strode forward and kicked my suitcase away.
“When will you stop making a scene?
“The doctor said Rachel’s condition has deteriorated. It’s all because you upset her. I haven’t even made you pay for it, and now you’re trying to run away!”
I laughed in anger.
“Did Rachel develop cancer because I upset her?
“Aaron, reflect on what ridiculous things you are talking about.”
Perhaps because Aaron had never heard me speak in such a tone previously, he was stunned for a brief moment.
I ignored him, retrieved the suitcase that had been knocked aside, and then resumed packing my clothes.
I didn’t possess a great deal of belongings. Although I had lived there for eight years, two 26–inch suitcases sufficed to hold everything I owned.
Staring at Aaron, who remained silent, I casually said, “Once you transfer the money for my hair, I’ll pay the rent.”
