Staring at the recording, I decided to wait and see for now.
Yet, before leaving Aetherville, I would send it to Sarah.
Having reviewed the recording, I was set to leave.
Unexpectedly, I bumped into another acquaintance at the entrance of the hospital.
Aaron came from afar, carrying a lunchbox and fruits, and asked

me in a scolding tone, “Evelyn, where have you been these past few days? You weren’t at home, and your things were gone. It’s time to stop making a scene. Don’t push things too far.”
Unwilling to talk to him, I cast a pitying glance at him.
“We have broken up. Do you think I’m joking around?
“Aaron, I’m going to repeat this. We are through. So, hurry up and go to find your childhood sweetheart.”
With that, I walked past Aaron and left.
He still wanted to chase after me, but Rachel stopped him.
“Aaron, where are you going?
“I’ve been waiting for you for a long time, and I’m starving to
death!”
Aaron was in a dilemma, but in the end, he spun around and made his way over to Rachel.
She immediately glanced at me triumphantly.
I rolled my eyes and turned away.
At night, Aaron drunkenly called me, saying he couldn’t find me and that he had something to tell me.
“Evelyn, Evelyn, are you really going to break up with me?

“I’m sorry. I’m going to marry Rachel. She has cancer. I can’t bear to let her die with regrets.”
I nodded in comprehension and offered him a sincere wish. “May your marriage be joyous.”
Aaron shouted on the other end as if he had broken down.
Having lost all interest in hearing him out, I simply hung up.
I accepted the assignment from the company and went to the township to engage in poverty–alleviation work.
Before heading there, I sent Sarah what I had recorded at the hospital that day.
This was my way of returning the favor of saving my life that they had done for me before.
After all, Rachel was plotting to trick them out of their wealth.
I had no idea what happened later.

When I finally had some free time, three months had passed.
A friend conveyed some news to me.
In the end, Aaron didn’t marry Rachel.

illness.
Aaron flew into a rage and left Rachel behind, and the Parker family went bankrupt.
Their wedding became a trending topic.
In an instant, Aaron became the laughingstock of Aetherville.
I burst into laughter.
One day, I planned to go to the city to purchase supplies.
But to my surprise, Aaron stood outside with an excited
expression.
My colleagues were making a huge racket.
These voices got on my nerves. I stated seriously, “I have no connection with him. I will never like a cheating man.”
Then, my colleagues left in embarrassment.
Aaron slowly stepped forward with a sad face.
