Chapter 6
At the dinner party, Lucas slipped me a message, asking me to

drop his computer over to Jessica’s place.
But I simply ignored him.
Not long after that, my phone buzzed like crazy.
“Natalie, why didn’t you answer my call?” Lucas grilled me.
I was taken aback for a second. Ever since Jessica lost her marbles, Lucas hadn’t dialed my number in ages. If a text could clear things up, he’d never bother calling. Heck, he even broke the news of his wedding to me via text, and I handled the whole shebang by myself.
Lucas pressed on, “Why are you keeping quiet? Are you still miffed at me, Natalie? I told you, it’s just for a year. Can’t you see the light and…”
“Lucas,” I cut him off, “we broke up. Did you get amnesia or something? You’ve forgotten the wedding fiasco so quickly?”
He hesitated and sighed. “Natalie, just let it go. If you push me too far, who are you gonna marry after a year?”
Jessica’s voice piped up from the side. “Lucas, help me grab the robe.”

He responded to her, and before he could utter another word, I hung up abruptly.
While I was still in a daze, an arm wrapped around my waist, and Benjamin introduced me to the person standing across from us. “Mr. Douglas, meet my closest collaborator, Ms. Natalie Hanks.” Then, Benjamin arched an eyebrow proudly and added, “She’s also my wife now, the queen bee of the Russell Group.“”
I beamed and followed him into the party hall.

Little did I expect Lucas to swoop back to our house so soon.
Lucas phoned me in a gloomy tone. “Natalie, you’re not in Cloudville? Where are you?”
Benjamin’s ears perked up at the sound of Lucas‘ voice. He raised an eyebrow, put down the papers in his hand, and came over to envelop me in his arms.
My body tensed up, and I gently pushed away his hand that was brushing against my arm. I snapped at Lucas, “Lucas, what’s got into you? Where I went is none of your business. Why do you
care?”
Lucas, who rarely blew a fuse, spoke firmly, “I went home. Your stuff is still there. Is this how you break up with people? It shows you can’t live without me! I don’t want to hear the word ‘breakup‘ again when I call you next time.”

I groaned softly and looked up at Benjamin reproachfully. After hearing “breakup“, he bit my lip enthusiastically, and when he saw me glare at him, he planted a kiss on me without a second thought.
“What’s going on? What’s that racket?” Lucas asked eagerly.
I clamped my hand over Benjamin’s mouth and said into the phone, “Lucas, what’s this call all about? Just to check if I’m still in Cloudville? I thought you had better fish to fry.”
He replied impatiently, “Jessica found out about this property somehow and insists on coming over tomorrow to take a look. I’ve already asked the cleaning crew to start sorting through your things. You’d better come back and pick out what you want to keep. Otherwise, you’ll flip out if I toss the wrong stuff.”
Lowering my eyes in depression, I said calmly, “I got it.”
After hanging up, Benjamin grabbed my phone, looked at me with a mischievous grin, and said sarcastically, “You broke up with him, yet you still keep his number, huh?”
I blinked, dashed forward, and wrapped my arms around his waist, saying, “I forgot to block him. Sorry, darling.”
He gently pushed me away, his earlobe tinged with red. He stared straight at me and said, “That doesn’t work.”
I ventured, “Should I delete him now?”
Benjamin nodded and handed me back my phone, saying,

“Right now, without delay.”

Under his watchful eye, I blocked all of Lucas‘ contact info and then opened Instagram, deleting all the posts about him from the past.
Suddenly, Benjamin whispered menacingly in my ear, “Natalie, don’t you think I deserve an official announcement of our relationship from you as your boyfriend?”
I turned my head to him.
He glanced at my Instagram, but his face was a poker face.
Unable to resist, I bowed my head, smiled, grabbed his hand, and took a candid photo, uploading it to Instagram.
His eyes sparkled, and he pulled me into his arms, planting a
kiss on me.
