Chapter 5 The Devil in the Suit
Anne blinked in confusion. “Huh?” Before she knew it, she had
already been forced into the car. Justin, the glasses–wearing man who looked polite but clearly valued efficiency, didn’t bother waiting for her agreement. Before he even finished explaining who he was, she was unceremoniously ushered inside.
In broad daylight, no less, two men dressed like bodyguards. leaped out of the car behind her and quickly ushered her into the vehicle. She barely had time to react before she was seated in the roomy back seat, the car speeding away while she sat there in a daze.
Anne wondered, “Isn’t this plain kidnapping? But… no, that can’t be it. Their attitude doesn’t feel like kidnappers at all.”
As soon as she was inside, Justin, sitting in the front passenger seat, pulled out his phone and made a call. His tone was calm yet respectful as he said, “We have picked up Ms. Chastain, Mr. Kendrick.”
Anne’s brows furrowed as she thought, “Mr. Kendrick? Who’s that?” She racked her brain trying to recall if she’d ever crossed paths with someone by that name. After a moment, the answer was clear–no, definitely not. “Where are they taking me? How could they just whisk me away like this? Do they have no fear at
all?”

The car drove for what felt like an eternity before finally pulling up to a luxurious villa on the outskirts of Celestine.
It was King Villa. The realization hit Anne like a ton of bricks. In Celestine, the number of people who could afford to live in this place could be counted on one hand. There was no need to guess -the person behind this was someone of immense power and influence. A nervous knot then began forming in her stomach.
She wondered, “When have I ever had anything to do with. someone living at King Villa? A Kendrick, no less?” Her heart skipped a beat as a thought struck her. “If my memory serves me right, I once read in a magazine that the head of the Kendrick family–the wealthiest family in Celestine City–Killian Kendrick, lives here.”
As the name “Killian Kendrick” crossed Anne’s mind, she suddenly recalled the heated, vivid memory from the night. before. Her head began to spin..
“Mr. Kendrick? Could it be Killian? No way. It’s too much of a coincidence. It can’t be what I’m thinking… right?” she thought nervously.
Lost in thought, Anne barely noticed the car stopping. Justin’s voice broke her daze. “Ms. Chastain, please. Mr. Kendrick is waiting for you.”
As she got out of the car, there was no time to speak before a man calling himself Justin guided her into the main hall. The second she walked in, her feet froze in place. Sitting gracefully on the sofa was someone whose face she knew all too well.

At the sight, Anne felt her heart tremble, and she frowned, thinking, “You’ve got to be kidding me. Him? Of all people… it’s Killian.
Why do I feel like I’ve been caught red–handed doing something I shouldn’t? Is it too late to run?”
“Ms. Chastain has arrived, Mr. Kendrick,” Justin said with a slight nod before quietly exiting the room and softly closing the door
behind him.
As the door clicked shut, Anne felt her heart tighten involuntarily. She had to admit–she was nervous. Especially after what had happened between them, meeting like this just felt undeniably awkward. She had thought they were done, their deal settled, and they’d both go their separate ways. Yet here he was, pulling a stunt that felt like a full–blown kidnapping.
Now, it was just the two of them in the room. Killian sat there, flipping through a document, not sparing Anne even a glance. She shifted uneasily, guilt gnawing at her. She couldn’t shake the feeling that dragging this out like this wasn’t going to end well.
“Why do you have your people drag me here?” Anne asked, her voice. laced with irritation but lacking confidence.
At the sound of her voice, Killian set the magazine down and looked up at her with a faint smile. “What do you think?”
The moment Anne locked eyes with him, her heart skipped a beat. She pondered, “Damn it, let’s be real–this guy’s dangerous in more ways than one. How did I not notice before? The black suit, the crisp white shirt with the top buttons undone, that

arrogant, effortless air… It only made his chiseled features more
striking. He was impossible to look away from. Wait, what? Who said I wanted to keep staring?”
She silently mocked herself for letting her thoughts wander like that. Shoving those messy ideas to the back of her mind, she met Killian’s gaze head–on and questioned, “How would I know what you’re planning? But let me warn you, pulling off a public stunt like kidnapping someone is a crime, and I-”
Anne’s words got caught in her throat. Her body stiffened because, in the blink of an eye, Killian had closed the distance between them. Ast he stood in front of her now, his towering frame made her feel utterly small.
She instinctively stepped back, putting a little distance between
herself and Killian. She had to tilt her head up to see him clearly, and it made her marvel at just how tall he was.
Killian smirked. “What’s the matter, Ms. Chastain? Have you fallen. for me? You’ve been staring at me like you can’t get enough.”
His teasing snapped Anne out of her daze. Noticing that he had closed the distance between them once more, she reflexively stepped back again.
“Just say what
you need to say, Killian. There’s no need to… stand so close-” Anne’s voice faltered as her back pressed against the wall. She was out of room to retreat.
“Oh, so you do know who I am. Seems like you had this all

planned out from the start, Ms. Chastain,” Killian said, a mischievous smile suddenly spreading across his face. With one swift motion, he extended his arm and trapped her against the wall. “You must’ve really enjoyed my services and want something more long–term, huh? Otherwise, you wouldn’t have left behind a keepsake, right?”
Anne’s heart raced as his presence overwhelmed her. The sheer force of his masculine presence was intoxicating. The low timbre of his voice, rich and teasing, was so intoxicating that she couldn’t stop the slight tremble in her legs.
“You’re talking nonsense. I-” she started to retort, but her words. died the moment her eyes fell on the object in Killian’s hand.
