My parents stole my lottery ticket

Chapter 5
I replayed this moment countless times, and the only thing that stood out was the bowl of milk Madison brought me during breakfast.
So, I left home carlier than usual, but to my surprise, they came looking for me.
Watching the time tick away, I was beyond furious and gripped my phone to call the police.
Before long, the front door was slammed with knocks, and several officers barged in. “Where’s Zoey?”
Ignoring my parents‘ attempts to stop them, they rescued me from my bedroom and escorted me all the way to the exam hall, just in time for the test to start.
Before heading to the exam, I grabbed my ID and luggage.
After the exam, I checked into a hotel.
On the other end of my phone, I was bombarded with insults and pleas, so I blocked all three of them.
My parents were frantic, searching everywhere for me. They even called my old classmates to ask about my whereabouts.
I ignored them all and focused solely on waiting for my

acceptance letter.
A few days later, outside a lottery shop, a person wearing all black, a mask, and a voice changer, so wrapped up that one couldn’t even tell their gender, showed up.
“Hi, I’m here to claim my prize.”
“Wow, look at how covered up this person is. How much did they win?”
“Didn’t someone win over 10 million dollars recently? Could it be this one?”
A crowd gathered and started whispering. My parents had been stationed outside the shop every day, and when they saw the masked person, their eyes lit up.
“It’s her! It’s that brat! She’s finally here to collect the money!”
My brother, Dylan, furious, rushed forward and punched the person
in black.
“Stop pretending! Hand over the ticket! All that money is mine!”
My father kicked the person, breathing heavily. “Sorry for the scene. This is our daughter. She stole our lottery ticket to claim the prize. Zoey, don’t think we won’t recognize you just because you’re wearing
a mask!”
The person in black screamed in pain, rolling around on the ground, but my parents and Dylan continued to beat them

mercilessly.
They were panting heavily from the struggle, but the masked person kept clutching the ticket.
Just then, the police arrived and pulled my parents away.

The figure on the ground removed the mask, revealing a middle–aged
man!
He pointed at my parents, gritting his teeth. “I don’t know them! These crazy people attacked me, trying to steal my ticket. Officers, don’t let them off the hook!”
My parents and Dylan were stunned. “You… You’re not Zoey? Who are you?
“Where’s Zoey?”
I only arrived after seeing the live stream online. As I watched the middle–aged man being carried away on a stretcher, I couldn’t help but shiver.
They actually mistook that man for me!
He had been beaten so badly that his bones were broken in several places, and his internal organs were damaged.
If I had gone to claim the prize today, I shuddered to think how I might’ve been treated!
