Chapter 2
The little guy who had been acting all tough and bored suddenly turned into a total softie
when he saw me.
L
wife. If anyone needs anything during the
party, just let me know. We’ll do everything
we can to make your experience memorable,
as a courtesy to Mrs. Grant’s old classmates.”
The looks on everyone’s faces were priceless.
Some people were thrilled, but those who had
been rude to me were now pale as ghosts.
A few of the girls who were nice to me
couldn’t help but ask, “Sarah, your husband is
the billionaire, David Grant?”
“Duh! Didn’t you hear the manager calling her
Mrs. Grant, and the kid calling her Mommy?
Of course, she’s his wife!”
“Wow, that’s a real–life fairytale…”
I just smiled awkwardly.
David looked me up and down, then pulled me
into a hug. “You just got back from the
hospital, didn’t you? Get some rest when we
get home.”
I nodded, “Okay.”
Then, ignoring Ashley, who was trying to flirt
with him, David glared at Fred.
“So, you’re my wife’s ex? Thanks for not
marrying her back then.”
“If you hadn’t messed things up, I never would
have met her!”
Fred didn’t say anything to David.
He just looked at me, with this broken,
desperate expression. “Sarah, is this your way
of getting back at me?”
“How much did you pay these people?”
I took my son’s hand and pulled David closer
to me. “This is my husband, David Grant.”
His face went from disbelief to shock to pale
to completely blank.
Maybe I used to care about what he thought.
But he was right, the past was in the past.
I had a new love, a child, my dream job, and
the happy marriage and family I never had the
first time around.
く
This time, I was way happier.
Ashley threw this reunion, but once everyone
found out who I was.
Their attitudes flipped. One minute they were
sucking up to Ashley, the next they were all
over me.
It only took a few minutes.
“Can you believe Sarah married David Grant?
Fred was trying to give her a pity check, it’s
too funny!”
“Right? He thought she was doing bad, but
she landed a total upgrade.”
“Ashley was going to offer her a job at the
nail salon? I just heard Sarah is the head
surgeon at University Hospital, she needs a
job like a hole in the head!”
“Sarah, why didn’t you tell us you were
married? We would have given you a huge
gift!”
I just smiled and nodded, keeping it polite.

The reunion was boring, so David, Ryan, and I
left.
As soon as we walked out of the Grant Hotel.
“Sarah!”
Fred came running after me.
