Chapter 29
Aurora could clearly understand
and William’s feelings. After all, he had devoted his life to the country and its people.
But she also had her own perspective on this situation. Some things weren’t as simple as they seemed, and some decisions couldn’t be judged solely by
appearances
She hesitated for a moment before spealding calmly, her voice steady, “Loyalty is often a personal choice. Everyone’s pursult is different, and that’s okay. Maybe they’re chasing the peak of academia, seeking breakthroughs.”
When she was abroad, she met many students from her own country who were strongly driven to learn. Many of them were obsessed with research and willing to sacrifice everything—even their lives—for academic excellence,
“Loyalty is a personal choice?” William softly repeated her words, pausing before letting out a deep sigh. “You’re right. Aurora, you’re a very rational and understanding person.”
His eyes were full of warmth, clearly stemming from his admiration for her. “No wonder that person recommended you so strongly and has been protecting you so well. I guess only by doing that can you serve the country and our people better.”
“You’re too kind, Chancellor Payne,” Aurora said, smiling modestly. “I do have a past I’m not proud of, and I know you’ve helped me handle it. Those things buried now. No one can find them online anymore. I know that’s all thanks to your efforts. I appreciate it. Please take care of him for me.
William chuckled. “Don’t worry. We spoke on the phone yesterday. He’s concerned about you, but you know how busy he is with state affairs..
Before he could finish, Aurora raised her hand to stop him, giving him a knowing smile. She understood, and that was enough
William laughed louder. “Alright, you’re too sharp for me.”
He quickly changed the subject. “By the way, there’s a conference for the inspection team at 3:00 pm. Make sure you’re there on time. Mr. Young should have rearranged your classes.”
Aurora paused for a moment, then replied, “Chancellor Payne, I think Professor Sullivan is more than capable of taking on the task. How abour-
William smiled and shook his head without speaking.
Aurora sighed, giving in.
“Alright, I’ll take note of it. If there’s nothing else, I’ll head out. I’ve got a few things to wrap up at the lab.”
Owen seemed to be very busy. For several days, Aurora hadn’t seen him or heard from him.
She had sent a message asking if he was coming home for dinner, but he didn’t reply. She didn’t send another message after that.
She also hadn’t heard back from Wendy, but she did receive a call from Toby at the hospital–Bryce had woken up
Aurora had some important data and files to drop off at the research institute. After arranging her tasks, she headed to the hospital.
When she arrived at the door to the hospital ward, it was already crowded inside. The entire Klein family was there.
“Grandpa, don’t worry. You’ll get better. Dad’s here, and Sidney will help out. Everything will be fine. Just focus on getting better.”
“That’s right, Grandpa. Rest up, and don’t stress. The money issue is being handled now that Starline Entertainment has decided to partner with Venechi,” Sidney
also reassured him.
“It’s all that tramp’s fault. If it weren’t for her stirring up trouble, Vencchi wouldn’t have lost so much. We did everything we could to get her into a good family, but she just won’t appreciate it. The Klein family has raised her all these years. When have we ever done her wrong?
“And this is how she treats us? She doesn’t give a word of concem, and then she threatens us. Look at you, lying here sick. Has she even come to see you?”
Rosalie grew more and more upset, her eyes red with frustration and hurt.
