Chapter 34
Owen watched Aurora in silence for a long time, then quietly asked, “Who were those people, and why did they attack you? Do you know anything about them?
Aurora furrowed her brows, her eyes still stinging from the assault. She hesitated for a moment before shaking her head.
“I don’t know, and I can’t say for sure. I’ve been through something like this before. Suppose it’s just personal beef, I could look the other way. But if there’s something more behind it, that’s a whole different problem.”
As she spoke, she allowed Owen to gently press a cold towel against her eyes. She still clutched her briefcase tightly in her hands.
“Are you saying you’ve been through this before?” Owen asked, his voice sharp.
Aurora nodded. “In my line of work, you need to be prepared for these kinds of thin
She said it casually as if it were no big deal, but Owen understood that there was more to this story than she was letting on.
Her mentor was a world–renowned physicist, working on cutting–edge research in applied elements and technology. Every year, he faced dangerous situations. and his students often found themselves in the thick of it. Getting attacked wasn’t uncommon.
Aurora didn’t want to explain further. Everyone had their secrets, after all.
She had been through so much over the years that these small interruptions barely tazed her anymore. But now w that it had happened, there would be people to take care of it. The ones responsible wouldn’t get away with it.
Just then, her phone buzzed in her pocket.
After fumbling for a bit, she pulled it out and, with some difficulty, answered.
Owen swapped the bloodied towel on her hand with a fresh one, pressing it firmly to her wounds.
“Hello, Mr. Powell. Sorry, I ran into a bit of trouble and won’t be able to deliver it personally, Can you send someone to pick it up? I’ll send you the address.
“It’s just a small injury, nothing to worry about. The documents are fine. It happened outside Central Hospital. Yeah, I’m not sure what their motives are. You decide. I’m olay, don’t worry…!
”
Owen could tell the call was important, but he didn’t press her for details since it involved confidential matters.
Lockily, the hospital was nearby. A quick U–tum and they’d be there in a few minutel
In the emergency room later that night, Aurora’s right hand was stitched up with ten stitches, and her left am had five. Her eyes were flushed out with solution for a while before they could even apply eye drops. They were still red and irritated, but at least she could open them now.
When the doctor stitched her up, he didn’t use any anesthetic, but Autora didn’t make a sound. She remained completely calm, her eyes focused on the doctor’s hands
Owen noticed something else while he watched. Along with the fresh wounds, there were two older scars on her arm.
Aurora’s composure was something he’d never seen before.
He couldn’t imagine what she’d been through to develop such a steady, unshakable demeanor. But seeing her like this somehow made him respect her more. Maybe he even felt a strange kind of tendemess for her.
“With wounds of this size, they could get infected. You might run a fever. You’ll need antibiotics, and it’s best to stay in the hospital for a couple of days to be observed. What do you think-
The doctor finished cleaning her wounds and spoke again.
“I don’t think it’s necessary,” Autora cut him oft before he could finish. “Just give me the shots and some fever medicine and antibiotics
