Chapter 38
“How could I not have something to believe in?” she replied lightly
“I couldn’t tell, Professor Reed.”
“Sometimes, it’s important to have something to hold onto. Otherwise, it’s hard to keep going down a road that seems endless. If life gives us gifts like talent, it’s because we’re meant to do something meaningful with it.”
The two of them chatted easily, without tension or the usual awlowardness. It was hard to believe that after being married for this long, this was the first time they felt such a smooth, open connection
There were no forced conversations, I
no stiffness. It felt more like two old friends who had been reunited after years apart, casually reminiscing about their past.
The IV drip took over an hour, and she received other vaccines too. Once that was done, the nurse removed the needle and brought the medications. The rain was coming down in sheets, and the wind was biting cold.
Owen’s phone buzzed again.
He took it out and glanced at the screen, frowning.
Seeing his reaction, Autora said, “I’m fine now. If you’re busy, Mr. Jenson, just go ahead and handle things. I’ll grab a cab home…”
But before she could finish, he slipped his phone back into his pocket and lifted her into his arms.
Aurora immediately tensed up, struggling a little. “You don’t have to carry me. Just put me down. I can walk on my own.
She wasn’t used to being this close to any man, and it made her uncomfortable. Her body instinctively rejected it.
“Are you sure you want to walk out like this?” Owen’s deep voice sounded, his gaze landing on her feet
That was when Aurora realized her high heels were filthy, and she had been wallding around barefoot this whole time.
“…I can walk barefoot…”
“Your feet look fine, but are you sure you want to do that?”
“Vol”
She barely finished her sentence before Owen grabbed her briefcase and effortlessly carried her out the door.

The faint scent of his cologne suddenly overwhelmed her, and the sensation was so unfamiliar that she instinctively stiffened in response.
“Put me dowIL…”
The usually composed Aurora now felt her face heating up. She was… embarrassed.
“Stay still. If you move again, don’t blame me for the consequences.” Owen’s voice was deep and serious yet strangely gentle.
“Owen.”
“I thought you had forgotten my name, Professor Reed.” Owen chuckled softly.
“You’re pretty bossy.”
“How else can I keep you still in my arms?” His tone was calm, almost teasing. He looked down at her, a faint smile playing on his lips.
Was he flirting with her?
Was he oft his rocket today?
