Chapter 41
Aurora felt completely out of it. Her whole body was sore, and her throat was dry and painful. She couldn’t tell if it was from the injury or if she had caught a cold, but even in her foggy state, she forced herself to keep drinking hot water.
Her clothes were soaked through, and she changed them over and over again.
At one point, her fever spiked to 10 degrees Fahrenheit, which really freaked Connie out. She wanted to call the hospital right away.
But Aurora stopped her. She took more medicine and kept cooling herself down
She was in and out of awareness, her mind blurry. Through her dazed state, she thought she saw Owen pouring her some water, but then that face seemed to change Into Connie’s. She couldn’t tell if it was Owen or Connie.
“Thank God, the fever’s finally gone. That was too scary… She was burning up.” Connie looked at the thermometer, feeling a little relieved. She turned and glanced at Owen, who was sitting at the edge of the bed. Herexpression was a bit complicated.
she had just sent a message saying Aurora had a fever, and Owen rushed back right away. He took care of her himself, bringing her water, wiping her down with alcohol, and doing everything to help bring the tever down
She had never seen him so attentive to any woman before. Not even his grandmother got this kind of treatment.
But Aurora
Connie didn’t know the full details about her. She only knew that Aurora was a professor at Astrait University. She was highly educated and an intellectual.
Owen didn’t think there was anything special about what he was doing.
The woman lying in bed sick was his wife. He felt responsible for her, and taking care of her was just part of his duties.
As for the emotions he might have toward her, he hadn’t really thought about them
From the moment their marriage agreement took effect, she took on the role of his wife. During their marriage, it was only right that he did his part.
Maybe this was what she meant when she talked about faimess
After all, hadn’t she cooked for him? Hadn’t she treated his wounds?
Putting in effort in a relationship worked both ways. Keeping a marriage intact was no different. Both people had to contribute.
His parents had always taught him that. Whenever one of them got sick or needed help, the other took care of them
Owen had grown up seeing that, so he had high expectations for his family and his partner. Just because he could accept a contractual mandage didn’t mean he could completely commit to it.
But after getting to know Aurora over the past few days, he started to wonder—maybe she really was the one
Owen wasn’t one to hesitate or drag things out. When he sensed a shift in his emotions toward her, he quickly acted on it.
These past few days when he was out working, he’d find himself loolding forward to coming home. Maybe it was for a nice meal? Or a warm breakfast?
Or maybe there was something else?
“Mr. Jenson, you’ve been working all night. Do you want to rest for a bit? I can keep an eye on things,” Connie asked quietly.
“You can go now. Tell the maid to get breakfast ready, then take a break You’ve worked hard,” Owen replied in a low voice, his eyes still on Aurora’s face. He reached out to feel her forehead, making sure her fever had gone down before he pulled his hand back
“Alright, but…” Connie wanted to say something else, but seeing Owen already tiredly raising his hand to rub his brows, she could only go out in silence.
