The divorce papers scattered across the floor, and someone picked one up, glancing at it.
Looks pretty convincing. Mr. Ford, it’s not real, is it?”
Julian’s tone was dismissive
“Just an amateurish old trick”
He was so certain 1 was only throwing a tantrum and so confident I would never leave.
To him, all my resistance and desperation were nothing more than petty, irrational outbursts.
The mocking glint in his eyes, as he looked at me now, said it all.

“Victoria, I suggest you stop before you embarrass yourself any further.”
A wave of exhaustion swept over me, seeping into my very core.
There was a saying: “Once a flower wilts, it’s gone forever. Even if it blooms again, it’s never the same.”
People were no different:
1 turned to leave.
Clang
The sound of Julian’s wine glass shattering on the floor stopped me in my tracks.
“Victoria, think carefully. Once you walk out of here, who would want you? Who would dare take you?”
I wasn’t sure what my expression looked like, but it must have been terrible because the jeering crowd fell silent.
My vision blurred, and Julian’s face twisted into a monstrous, distorted shadow.
I felt my soul plummeting once more.
The last time I fell, Julian had caught me.
This time, he was the one pushing me into the abyss.
I bit down hard on my lip, the metallic taste of blood filling my mouth.
“Oh, Julian, isn’t this the glass Victoria drank from? It doesn’t even smell like alcohol,” Averil said with mock innocence.
The drink had been poured right in front of Julian by one of his lackeys. Averil’s accusation was a clumsy lie.
But Julian believed her anyway.

As if latching onto an excuse, he strode over and grabbed my wrist. “Victoria, you’ve truly let me down. Apologize to Averil.”
His tone was cold and impatient.
The alcohol was already wreaking havoc on my immune system, and my vision blurred with overlapping images. I could barely move my legs, the single thought of escape echoing in my mind.
But Julian wasn’t about to let me go.
