Lyla gave me a wounded, reproachful look.

“Claire, I know you want more attention from us, but you can’t throw tantrums like this!
“Your sister is still emotionally unstable. Why don’t you listen to me and apologize to her?”
I ignored her and turned to Nora. “Mom, let’s go.”
Lyla pointed at me, shocked by my impatience. “You… you…”
Seeing I was leaving, she snorted, “Fine, so you think you’re too good for us now? Then go!
“But don’t you dare take anything the Evans family gave you!”
She lifted her chin, convinced I was planning to steal valuable items, as she and Rylan followed behind me, one on each side.
They both looked dumbfounded when we reached my room.
“Isn’t this the storage room? This is where you live?” Rylan asked in disbelief.

“You said the sisters should live on the same floor to bond, but all that’s left is a storage room since Sienna took everything else, so Claire had to make do.

“And this has lasted eight years!”

Nora laughed bitterly. “The Evans family might be rich, but this room is worse than what Claire had before.
“The adopted daughter gets a luxurious bedroom made from three combined rooms while your biological daughter lives in a storage closet.
“I have to say, I’m impressed by your priorities.”
Lyla and Rylan’s faces turned red with shame, unable to meet our eyes.
They exchanged glances, acting like they couldn’t remember who had decided to let me live here.
Rylan remained stubborn. “So what if the room is small? We Evans didn’t deprive her of anything!”
The empty room hit him like a slap when I opened the door.
The storage room was furnished with only the bare necessities.
It had the same bed as the maid’s room, an old desk, a rusty clothing rack, and a few faded clothes–everything I owned.
Rylan fell silent.
He stared wide–eyed, unable to comprehend why my room was so bare.

After all, even the most ordinary–looking doll in Sienna’s room was a limited edition worth thousands of dollars.
I smiled bitterly and said, “Well, I don’t have any valuables to take with me.
“Mom, let’s just leave.”
“No, you can’t go! You’re my daughter!”
Out of nowhere, Lyla grabbed my arm like a mad woman.
Guilt flashed across her face. “We’ve been neglecting you, Claire. Please stay! Let me make it up to you.”
Rylan spoke to me for the first time with a hint of warmth. “Yeah, Claire, stay with us. We’ll treat you and Sienna the same.”
The two of them blocked our path, creating a standoff.
Nora shot me a worried glance, probably afraid I’d change my mind about leaving with her.
But she kept quiet, letting me make my own decision.
I looked at my so–called birth mother and brother standing in front of me, taking my time to respond.
Sure enough, there was another commotion from Sienna’s side within minutes.

“What are you all doing just standing there? Sienna slit her wrists!”
Charles came running out of Sienna’s room in a panic.
“If Claire wants to leave, let her go! She’ll be the one with regrets! Quick, help me get Sienna to the hospital!”
Lyla and Rylan’s faces showed a moment of hesitation, but it didn’t last long.
As he turned to leave, Rylan surprised me by saying, “Don’t go anywhere! Wait at home for us to come back.”
I watched them rush off, clustering around Sienna without a backward glance, and couldn’t help but smirk.
It was a good thing I’d never expected anything from them
anyway.
