Chapter 5
Furious, she cursed my dad. “That bastard, even trying to steal his daughter’s money! What a shameless old fool!”
She stared at the photos on her phone, getting angrier by the second.
“It seems he’s still got some cash on him, or else he wouldn’t have spent twenty or thirty thousand dollars on that woman! He might not know the password yet, but he will eventually. We can’t let that money go to some mistress!” She muttered angrily to herself.
I squeezed out a few tears, “Mom, honestly, I was planning to use that money to take care of you. When you and Dad get back together, we’ll be a family again, and we can spend it together. But, if Dad gives that money to some other woman, then none of us, not me, not Wilbur, and not you, will have anything left.”
My mother became more anxious and grabbed her bag, ready to confront my dad.
I quickly stopped her, urging, “Mom, don’t go barging in like that. Even if Dad admits it, if he refuses to give it to you, there’s nothing we can do. Forget about the money for now, just focus on getting him away from that woman!”
My mom complimented my cleverness. Calming down, she put on some makeup before heading out.

I called my dad to test the waters, and as expected, Wilbur had already spilled the beans to him about my mom wanting to leave
her inheritance to him.
“Dad, Mom’s always had you in her heart. She gave me twenty thousand dollars to pass on to you. I also hope you two can get back together, so I can finally have a complete family. I’m sending you the twenty thousand so you can buy her some gifts.”
For the next few days, my mom barely came home. I often overheard her on the phone with my dad.
One day, as I was downstairs taking out the trash, my dad suddenly appeared and slapped me across the face.
