Chapter 9
At this moment, I was already in the cab heading to the airport.
I watched the phone screen as call after call came in and saw the curses they sent me.
[Alisha! You ungrateful little bitch! Where the hell are you?!]
[I’m your mother! How could you abandon me? You’re nothing but a beast!]
I opened all the messages and voicemails.
It was the only way to soothe my mind. In my past life, I had died horribly at their hands. This outcome was well–deserved.
I got out of the cab and walked toward the airport entrance.
Suddenly, a group of reporters with cameras rushed toward me and surrounded me.
“Ms. Moran, your mother has accused you online of stealing money from your family and running away. She says you abandoned your parents. What do you have to say about that?”
“Your mother raised you alone. Isn’t this treatment too cruel?”
“Your younger brother is in the hospital facing amputation. How can you took the money and ran. Are you even human?”

“You heartless monster!”
A crowd of onlookers had gathered, drawn in by the media’s sensational reporting.
They believed the journalists and began attacking me.
I glanced at the time. There was only half an hour until my flight.
I hadn’t expected that my parents would use the same public pressure tactics they had used against me in my past life.
In my past life, at this point, I was being viciously attacked online by many netizens. They had found my address and came to my place, throwing paint, cursing at me, and smashing up my home.
My parents were crying on the media, accusing me of all kinds of wrongdoing.
My mom was crying in a livestream, with visible ‘injuries‘ on her face. She fiercely condemned my ungratefulness.
This time around, I swore I wouldn’t let myself fall into such a passive position again.
After a while, my parents arrived at the airport by car and caught up with me just in time.
It seemed like they wanted to kill me on the spot, but with the

My mom rushed at me, grabbing my hand. Her face was covered in bruises.
This time, it wasn’t an act. My dad and the debt collectors had really beaten her.
“Alisha, that’s Wilbur’s life–saving money! You can’t take it!”
My mother’s grip on my wrist was like iron, and her hands left red marks on my skin.
She looked at me with tears in her eyes, but in her gaze, there was a cold, vengeful hatred.
My dad stood nearby, guarding the exits where I could escape, glaring at me with malevolent eyes.
They shouted at me, “You heartless woman. You even tricked your own parents! You’re a monster! Don’t even think about leaving!”
I could tell that in their minds, they had already planned how to deal with me.
Once the reporters left, my dad would grab me, force me to hand over the twenty million dollars, and repay every blow they had taken over the past few days.
I suddenly shoved my mom aside and pulled out the documents from my bag.

“Well, since you’re reporters, you should report objectively, not spread rumors! Here’s the evidence that my dad, Fletcher Moran, borrowed money through online loans. The injuries they have are because they were chasing after vanity, taking out usurious loans!
“Eight years ago, my dad gambled and sold my mom, Darla Moran, and me to a club. That was all over the front page of Azuria City’s news. You can go check it out!
“And the money I have here, I won it in the lottery myself. I didn’t take it from them!”
I showed the evidence to the reporters one by one.
This revelation quickly created a huge stir online.
Within minutes, stories about me working to support my mother. started circulating.
Of course, this was part of my pre–planned media strategy.
But it was also the truth.
In no time, everyone’s attitude toward my parents changed!
My parents still wanted to argue with me, but just then,
the sound of sirens rang out, and the officers dispersed the reporters, quickly arresting my parents and putting them in handcuffs.
