The next day at work, I still had flashes of Godfrey with his head covered in blood, leaning against the wall in pain. But I didn’t regret it. There was no point in entangling with him any further.
After running around various companies with Esmond all day in high heels, my feet and back ached. Perhaps I hadn’t fully recovered from the previous miscarriage, as my abdomen also felt a dull pain. Suddenly, a wave of dizziness hit me, and I lost my balance. Esmond’s strong hands immediately wrapped around my waist, barely keeping me upright.
At
that moment, Godfrey suddenly appeared and pulled me away from Esmond’s arms. “Didn’t you say it was nothing? But now you’re hugging in public? You insist on divorcing me because you’ve actually been with someone else all along, haven’t you?” People in the company turned to look at us. I was just an employee here for training, and his outburst was making it hard for me to stay. I lowered my head, not saying anything, feeling extremely dizzy.
Esmond bypassed Godfrey and came over to ask me, “Are you okay? Is everything alright?” I shook my head. Esmond then looked at Godfrey.
“Sir, do you want me to call the police?” Esmond told the onlookers to leave.
“leaned against the wall to rest, my back hurting badly.
Godfrey finally noticed something was wrong with me. “Elsie, what’s wrong? Are you feeling unwell?” I was in too much pain to speak. “Let’s go home. You don’t need to continue this training. Let’s go back to our home…” With a little strength I had left, I managed to utter, “Godfrey, do we still have a home?” He paused and then forced a smile. “Of course we do. Elsie, you love me, and I love you. We’re still married.”
Ishook my head. “No, Godfrey.” I looked up at him and continued, “I don’t love you anymore.” His face instantly turned pale, and his eyes reddened. I repeated softly once more, “Godfrey, I don’t love you anymore.” He staggered back a step, his lips trembling. “H–How could that be? Elsie, how could you not love me anymore?” I didn’t say anything more. I just looked at him. He slumped back against the wall, lowering his head. After a long while, he covered his face with his hands. His shoulders trembled. It seemed like he was crying.
Godfrey finally left. And then I fainted.
According to my colleagues, during the two days I was unconscious, Esmond found the best hospital for my treatment. He also contacted my father and arranged for him to stay at a hotel nearby so he could visit me
anytime.

Godfrey finally agreed to divorce me. He tried to visit me in the hospital several times but was turned away each time. I never let him in. He looked much more haggard than before.
Theard that Sirena’s ex–husband remarried her and even bought a villa for her. After learning that she had always been close to Godfrey, her ex–husband repeatedly caused trouble for Godfrey. The New Year was approaching. On New Year’s Eve, I suddenly received a call from Esmond. His speech was slightly slurred, and his voice low and charming, “Elsie…” He must have been drunk. I took the initiative to say, “Esmond, Happy New Year.” He was silent for a long time before softly calling out again, “Elsie…” My heart started pounding wildly, not knowing why.
He suddenly chuckled lightly, “Happy New Year.” Fireworks blossomed outside the window.
