Chapter 5 I’m Leaving
So, I joined the conversation and replied, “They do look like a perfect match,” I added a happy–faced emoji at the end. Then I deleted the group chat and muted my phone. By the time I finished my work, it was already dark. I took out my phone and saw over a dozen missed calls, all from Godfrey. One message after another popped up. “Elsie, let me explain.”
It’s not what you think!”
“Elsie, please answer the phone.”
“Elsie, where are you? I’ll come find you right now!”
I called Godfrey back. He picked up almost immediately. Before I could speak, he quickly said, “Elsie, why didn’t you answer the phone? Where are you now? I went home and you weren’t there. I’m downstairs at your office.” I’m coming down now,” I said.
When I got downstairs, Godfrey’s car had just pulled up. He got out and walked over to me, taking my bag from my hand. “Let’s go home,” he said.
i was about to open the passenger door but froze. Sirena rolled down the window and greeted me with a smile. “Sorry, Elsie,” she said apologetically. “I get car sick easily. Do you mind sitting in the back?”
My hand paused on the door handle. Godfrey was already in the driver’s seat and explained, “Elsie, Sirena hasn’t been feeling well lately. Please sit in the back for now. I’ll drop her off first and then you can move to the front.”
“No need to switch. The back is fine,” I said without any objection and got into the back seat.
On the way, Sirena started talking to me. “Elsie, it’s been so long since I’ve been back. I’m not familiar with many places anymore. Plus, I usually have to take care of my child and don’t get a chance to go out much. Today, Godfrey was free, so he took me out. You don’t mind, do you?”
She turned around and smiled at me as she finished speaking. Godfrey watched me through the rearview mirror. I shook my head and said, “Not at all.” After thinking for a moment, I added, “Did you have fun? Next time, let my husband take you somewhere else. He’s free on weekends.”
Godfrey frowned deeply. Sirena patted his arm playfully and laughed, “Today, we played games, and Godfrey’s arms were sore from holding me for a long time. Let’s not make him take me out again. He’s tired from work too, right, Godfrey?”
Godfrey nodded stiffly without saying a word.
After dropping Sirena off at her home, Godfrey turned to me and said, “Elsie, come sit in the front.”
No need. It’s spacious back here and comfortable.”
Godfrey seemed a bit impatient. “Can you stop being difficult? It was just because Sirena was bored at home alone and hadn’t been out for a while, so I took her out.” Treplied calmly, “I believe you. Let’s go home. I’m tired after working late.”

Chapter 5 m Leaving
Godfrey got out of the car and moved to the back seat with me. He held my shoulders firmly, forcing me to look at him. “Elsie, do you really not care? Or are you just saying that out of anger?”
He hugged me tightly. “I promise it won’t happen again. I’ll definitely keep my distance from her from now on.”
So he knew he should keep his distance from other women after all. He knew he was married.
But he had broken his promises time and again, even lying to deceive me.
But it didn’t matter. After all, I was leaving soon anyway.
“Okay, I believe you.”
