Chapter 8 He Crosses My Line
He casually pushed a pile of documents towards me. “Familiarize yourself with these files. Follow me tomorrow.”
Esmond was a stern leader who rarely smiled. I always felt nervous around him.
After working for half a month, one day after work, while packing my bag, a lively colleague joked with me. “Elsie, you didn’t get scolded by Esmond all morning today. He is quite gentle with you. We’ve all been scolded by him before. He is tall and handsome, and you’re about the same age. Do you have any thoughts about him?”
“Esmond is just too strict. I heard he hasn’t had a girlfriend yet.”
“But you seem to be an exception.”

Godfrey looked anxious. As soon as he saw me, he asked, “Elsie, why didn’t you reply to my messages or answer my calls?”
Of course, I did it on purpose.
“Is there something you need?”
“You not replying or answering made me very worried about you, Elsie,” he said in a softer tone.
“I’m fine. No need to worry.”
He seemed anxious. “You’re my wife. How could I not worry when my wife runs away?”
“Now that you’ve seen me, I’m fine. I’m leaving now.” I started to walk away.

Godfrey followed me. “Elsie, it’s been so many days. Are you still angry? Don’t you miss me?”
I’stopped and looked into his eyes, speaking each word seriously, “Godfrey, I’m really not angry anymore.”

He stubbornly said, “I don’t believe you.” He grabbed my arm.
it was fine if he didn’t believe me. I tried to break free, but he pulled me along.
He not only drove to Toronto but also brought a car full of luggage.
“What are you doing?” I asked in confusion.
“Elsie, I’ve rented an apartment here. I’ll stay in Toronto with you from now on.”
You quit your job?”
Yes.”

“Godfrey, there’s no need…”
He quickly put his finger on my lips as if afraid I’d say something he didn’t want to hear. “Elsie, don’t say anything. I was wrong, okay?”
I really was wrong. I’ll stay here with you from now on and never contact Sirena again.”
Flooked at him. “Is Sirena our only problem?”
“Whether or not you contact her is your business. It has nothing to do with me. Let’s finalize our divorce soon.”
He held on tightly and wouldn’t let go. “Give me another chance, please?”

“Elsie, when does your training end? Your dad told me that if we had a child, he would come over to help take care of it… froze and then angrily shook him off. “Why did you talk to my dad?”
