Chapter 6
The leading doctor rushed in and positioned himself protectively behind me. He was once our family doctor and a close friend of my father.
Katrina hadn’t expected anyone else to show up at the house and hurriedly explained, “Hailey’s condition is very serious. She needs to be hospitalized immediately. Don’t delay her treatment!”
“Exactly,” Nobert chimed in, “Who called you here? If you delay → my wife’s treatment, I’ll sue you for illegal entry!”
Dr. Li shot them a cold glance. “We’re from the First Hospital. I’ll be the one to determine if she’s sick or not.”
The results of the examination confirmed that I didn’t have any mental illness, but my body had dangerously high levels of heavy metals, indicating chronic poisoning.
“That’s impossible!” Katrina’s eyes widened in disbelief, but then her expression shifted to one of concern. “Hailey’s perfectly fine. How could she have chronic poisoning? I don’t believe you, I want our own doctor to check. Hailey, tell them, who will you trust? Him or us?”
I smoothed my clothes and sneered. “I trust him, of course. He’s been a close friend of my father for years and has known me since I was a child. Sir, you have to help me figure out how I ended up with this chronic poisoning.”

Katrina and Nobert were completely stunned. They couldn’t believe I was still able to speak so clearly.

They had watched me drink the medicine with their own eyes.
But the truth was, as soon as she left the room, I had run to the bathroom and made myself throw it all up.
The dazed look I’d put on earlier had all been an act.
“Please call the police. These people are up to something. They’re all here because Katrina called them. Katrina, you should go explain everything to the police.”
Nobert immediately stepped in front of the pale–faced Katrina, shielding her. “Katrina didn’t know they were unreliable. How can you blame her? Stop being so petty. We’re all just trying to help you. I remember you weren’t like this before.”
I scoffed. “Oh, I almost forgot him. You should send him to the police as well.”
Clark was efficient, and within no time, both Nobert and Katrina were taken away.
Maria came over to try and reason with me. “Mr. Vance
and Katrina were just trying to help you. How can you be so suspicious of them? Why the grudge?”
I crossed my arms and eyed her coldly. “Maria, wasn’t it you who just said I was indeed sick? That I was delusional, thinking I was the owner of this house? Well, go ask Katrina for this month’s salary. You’re fired.”

Maria’s face immediately twisted with rage. “What do you mean by that? I’ve only been following Katrina’s orders. I’ll leave if she asks me to. You have no right to decide! I’ll wait for her to come back!”
“Maria,” I said, narrowing my eyes, “You seem to have forgotten who the real owner of this house is. As for your daughter’s medical bills, I’m no longer covering them. You can go ask Katrina for that, too.”
In my past life, Maria had begged me to advance her salary for ten years to cover her daughter’s medical expenses. Out of gratitude for her years of service, I had agreed to help her with that.
But now, she was showing no gratitude at all.
Maria crumpled, deflating like a punctured balloon. She fell to her knees and begged, “Ms. Norris, I was wrong. I was blinded by greed, and that was why I served Katrina. Please, don’t cut off the medical funds for my daughter!”
Seeing I remained unmoved, she began searching frantically for the driver. “Clark! Where are you? Just look at her! How can she do this? You can’t just stand there and do nothing!”
Before, when Katrina had power, Maria had often acted like she was above others, throwing her weight around. Now, seeing her in disgrace, no one came forward to speak for her.
“Stop looking. He’s been fired too. From now on, you all can work at Katrina’s house.”
She threw a tantrum, rolling on the floor, but I remained calm, increasing the pay for several new servants in front of her. Then, I called the police and had her dragged away.
