Chapter 7
Katrina and Nobert ended up at the police station, but because they were careful and covered all their tracks, they were released quickly. As expected, it all came down to finding the key evidence.
I had stopped taking her medication these past few days, and I was already feeling a lot stronger.
As soon as I stepped into the office, Katrina was there to greet me. “Hailey, I knew I’d see you here at the company. What happened the other day was really a misunderstanding. How could Nobert and I ever want to hurt you?”
I glanced up and saw that Monty hadn’t been fired yet.
Monty crossed his arms, clearly annoyed. “Ms. Norris, your temper is impressive. You’re still playing along with her delusion that she’s the boss of this place. I can’t believe you even took the blame and delayed the foundation’s establishment. I wonder how many rumors will stir up.”
Honestly, I had to give Katrina credit for her creativity.
I shrugged off her hand. “Seems like the company needs a major shake–up.”
Katrina blocked me from entering my office. “We’re the best of friends, aren’t we, Hailey? Who else but me and Nobert can you trust? You’re still weak. You should rest. It wouldn’t be good for the shareholders to see you like this. I’ve already informed them the shareholder meeting is canceled today, so don’t worry about it.”

She thought I was still the same Hailey, the one who could be easily coaxed with a few sweet words and then let her continue to take control of my company and chase her dreams of being a rich woman.
Too bad for her, I had already died once.
Seeing me completely ignore her, Monty didn’t hesitate. She stormed in and tried to slap me. “Ms. Norris! You must summon the shareholders. I heard that one of them is a long–time partner of your father. Once they’re here, she won’t be able to bully you again.
Katrina’s eyes reddened, tears clinging to her lashes. “Don’t do this, please. Don’t hurt Hailey.”
I couldn’t be bothered to watch her act. I waved my phone. “I’ve already rescheduled the meeting before coming here. They’ll be here soon.”
Katrina’s face turned ghostly pale. She quickly turned her head to see who had arrived.
“My darling goddaughter! Long time no see!” A man who looked to be in his sixties walked in.
Monty rushed over to him, eager to complain. “Thank goodness you’re here! That crazy maid has lost it! She’s bullying Ms. Norris right in front of us! You’ve got to stand up for her!”
The man looked at Monty and, seeing he was pointing at me, was momentarily confused. “Which maid are you talking about?”
At that moment, Katrina’s face was ashen, and she looked like she wanted to crawl into a hole and hide.

“The one shamelessly sitting in the CEO’s chair!” Monty glared at me again.
The man’s face immediately turned red with anger. “I think you’re the crazy one! She’s Ms. Hailey Morris, the CEO of our company! How dare you get it wrong?”
The man had a booming voice, and his shout instantly drew a crowd of curious employees.
Especially Katrina’s so–called key employees.
When they heard this, they were all dumbfounded. “She… she’s the CEO? Could it be…?”
Monty shook Katrina by the arm, desperate. “Ms. Norris, say something! He must have made a mistake. You’re the CEO, not her!”
Katrina’s face turned red with fury, and she bolted out of the office.
The man looked at me, still confused. “What’s going on? Who is she?”
“Oh, just a friend staying at my place. She’s got a bit of a delusion, thinking she’s the CEO of my company.”
As soon as Monty heard this, she collapsed to the ground in shock.
She crawled toward me, crying, “Ms. Norris, I was such a fool! Please don’t fire me! I just started developing in this city, and if you fire me, no other company will take me!”
