Chapter 8
After finishing the company business, I lay in bed scrolling through my phone. It seemed that Nobert had moved a significant amount of money from my account. Even after I fired him, he still had enough to buy Katrina a million–dollar handbag.
Katrina’s photos on social media showed her grinning from ear
to ear.
It didn’t matter. Once I gathered all the evidence, they wouldn’t be able to run away.
I sent the towel with the medicine from that day to be tested. Sure enough, the drugs were contaminated.
If only I could get a video of them admitting it in person.
Just as I thought about this, the doorbell rang.
Nobert was on the other side, ringing it like crazy, sobbing and begging for my forgiveness.
“Hailey, I really didn’t know what Katrina was doing! Let me explain!
“You have to think about your son! He’s so young. He can’t grow up without a father! Hailey, I really love you!”
I opened the door and let him in. He immediately knelt down, crying as he clung to my legs. “Honey, I only went on a few

freezing out there. Let me make you a cup of coffee.”
As I turned to leave, Nobert quickly reached out, pressing a handkerchief soaked in the drugged substance to my nose.

When I regained consciousness, Katrina was standing in front of
- me.
She was wearing my pajamas, just getting out of bed, while Nobert was in the bathroom taking a shower.
“You’re awake?” Katrina walked over and showed me her phone. “Your son is in my hands. You’d better behave. Tomorrow, come with us to the press conference and transfer your shares to me. Otherwise, I’ll make sure your family reunites in hell.”
The video showed a boy tied up, crying and calling for me.
I knew it wasn’t my son. He had been under my protection for a long time.
But I nodded, agreeing to their demands. I shifted slightly, just enough to avoid blocking the tiny camera.
Katrina shoved me out of the room, and then she and Nobert spent the rest of the night together, ignoring me.
They came to find me the next day. Worried that someone might get suspicious, they even had me dressed up.
Katrina pushed me in front of a mirror, her eyes filled with hatred as if she wanted to tear me apart.
“Why does your life have to be so perfect? You have money and

She became more and more manic. “And I almost got sold by my own parents for just 200 thousand dollars! If you weren’t a wealthy heiress, Nobert would have chosen me!
“He loves me. I’m carrying his child, but he insists on marrying you, you shameless woman!”
I was stunned. So, they had been together for a long time.

But that wasn’t the reason they hurt me. She was so used to spending my money that she thought 200 thousand dollars was nothing.
The press conference began.
Nobert cried in front of the media. “I need to explain something
to our shareholders and consumers who support us. My wife’s condition has worsened, and she will likely no longer be able to serve as CEO.
“During this time, Ms. Bentley has been handling the company’s affairs, and we believe she’s done an excellent job. So, my wife has decided to transfer her shares to Ms. Bentley, and she will receive a monthly dividend.”
Nobert turned to me. “Isn’t that right, darling?”
Katrina grabbed my hand. “Tell them. Your son is waiting for his mother.”
Under their expectant gazes, I took the microphone. “I never said I would transfer my shares or management rights. They have been holding me captive, threatening me with my son, and that’s why we’re having this press conference today.”

The room was immediately filled with a chorus of gasps.
